Title: Make your mind up Dazmond

Telling us you have converted to hot water because of how bad the windows were during the storms, yet you try to justify working in bad weather, cant fathom it out :-\

Agreed Martin. There's no point in cleaning windows at all because they'll just get dirty if there's a storm.

Depends what you call bad weather....heavy rain in normal conditions doesn't cause
a problem but rain and strong winds is a no for me

Some people would say its no difference to washing your car its going to get dirty again straight away , your just cleaning off previous dirt.

I aim to provide the high quality clean that my customers deserve. I cannot do that if it is blowing a gale or the rain is coming down sideways. My customers don't want that, and neither would I, and that's without considering the safety aspect.

Of course we all have to make a living, but to me it's even more important to keep our customers happy, and sometimes it means that may come at a cost.

I am now standing with my back to the wall to await the firing squad.

You won't be saying that when you have many staff to pay

My experience is that those who don't work in the rain are the exception. I probably know five or six window cleaners in my town and all of them work in the rain. I am not remotely worried about losing customers to someone who doesn't work in the rain because they don't exist here that I know of.

If it hammers down I take cover, but that's it. Surely anyone that works in the North would have to work in the rain?

Why do you keep saying working in the rain, we are talking about working in  storms.

It actually rains more in cornwall than manchester! so maybe not more rain up north.

Work/don't work.its up to you!

I'd rather work and keep on schedule.more money earned over the course of a year.cleaner windows so less work to get them clean as im not getting behind.

It's a win win situation IMO. :)

But you said you were using hot water to wash off all the black stuff that had fallen out of the gutters during the storms, surely that would have happened straight after you had cleaned peoples windows during the bad weather seeing as you work in it, so minutes later there windows would be dirty again?

I didn't work in the wind and rain as there's far to much dust etc blowing about and they would never dry right.
I do however work in any rain that isn't hitting the Windows, so basically when it's not very windy.
If it's set in for the day which doesn't happen often I just play catchup

maybe, maybe not but who cares?i dont.a few times last week i worked the mornings in pretty dryish weather then the storms came in the afternoon and i sacked it off.ive not been back to check the windows after the storms.

so what do you suggest i do?have the whole day off because its forecast heavy rain/storms later? ::)roll

take today for example.ill work 930am-4pm in dry weather but i know its forecast to be terrible by 6pm.heavy rain.

if i had your attitude id never get round  half my work in winter time.

i clean a months(or 2 months) dirt off the windows.whatever happens 5 mins,10 mins,a few hours later is irrelevant.i cant control the weather and customers understand this.

even if some of the windows are slightly dirty again 5 mins later.they wont be as dirty as they were before i cleaned them.

ill also be collecting tonight in the rain! ;D

Where do draw the line. If you know there's a storm coming on Wednesday and you are concerned about your "quality" then how is it fair on customers to work on Monday & Tuesday but not on Wednesday?

This is it. They have to take the rough with the smooth. You can't plan your work life around a weather forecast anyway.

Easy "who cares?i dont" is what Dazmond says. Basically if you don't give a toss then it doesn't matter what the weather's like.

Realistically with our great British weather if people took a day off every time there was a bit of wind and/or rain you might as well get an inside job as you will never make any real money. Likewise if you think it's too hot or too cold to be working outside.

Surely you care about how the windows turn out on the day of the clean ? if not then what is all the babble on here about
quality winning work, keeping your water at zero, the extra cleaning power of hot/additives and so on.
You cant control what the weather is going to do tomorrow nor can you be expected to guarantee how it will effect your clean but if you do care about the quality of your cleans then you would at the least want the windows to be clean when the customer comes home on the day they where cleaned.
I don't care if anybody wants to clean in all weathers as I believe that most customers wont even notice but they shouldn't come on here and claim to be all about the quality as it obviously isn't.
The above is not directed at yourself 8 weekly just a follow on from your post and again I'm talking about storms.

Good post. For me who works in all weathers, it's because I'm full.
The quality of my cleans is what I like to think as high, but I'm not the judge of that.
Occasionally get a complaint, probably  because I'm rushing. Rarely lose one over quality but then custards are generally not honest enough to tell you.
I think we all do what we think is for the best  with an element of what we can get away with.

I would say it's on a par with Manchester Daz! No need to worry though. I've got through worse times than this.  :)
