Ok been thinking (😝) I have now done several Victorian house cleans, I use tensid restoration cleaner, rinse then pw to get the heavy soiling off, sometimes I need 2 applications, I was thinking maybe hot would help give a better clean and at lower pressure and wate usage. But I'm a bit confused about adding a hot box 🤔 Why do they need to be 240 volts ??? Surely the boiler is diesel and your pw is pumping water through ???
Yes I know ultimately doff of similar would be the way to go, but can't hot boxes do steam as well ?
I've seen some on fleabay from £700, but like most things I fear a bargain priced hotbox would be a cr@p hotbox 😩
What's the best options - without spending 5k or some such silly price
Thx

240v feed is to drive the fan motor fitted in any hotbox.
The likes of doff, Tensid etc run at a much higher temp (super heated upto 150c ) unlike a standard hot box so that is the main difference smudger.

If you were to got down the lines of say the mac or indeed the cleanwell hotbox you'd be getting the heat you need for ta decent price.
Doff systems can be very expensive to maintain and the makers like to try to tie you in to quarterly service contracts etc - they can be pretty temperamental too but they do provide a bit more heat at lower flow.
-
So the clean well bit box's are ok.
Would the fan run off a genny ? What about off the van like the water fed pole pumps a leisure battery

I have seen them run off an inverter fitted to the van battery.
Problem with using low flow is it can be too low to activate the flow switch, they also can smoke up the back of your van unless you fit a chimney or lift it out and they are very heavy.
I'm at present watching eBay to find knackered hot box that I can convert the heat chamber to propane (really easy to do) so it can run with out electric and have more controllable heat

Interesting project Mike

Already using a variation with my carpet cleaning machine, just basically the coil and steel jacket with the jets and electrical guts taken out, then this fitted at the bottom.....

Hi Smudger I picked up a decent condition used Lavor Volcano Hot Box a good while back for 450 like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lavor-Volcano-HOT-BOX-Heat-Exchanger-Boiler-/350148297905
My intentions were to go hot on some jobs when required either to keep it as it was or strip it down to build a washer van mount or trailer setup but never got around to it. To be honest I'm glad I did not buy a new one as it sat in the lockup most of the time and hardly ever gets used.
If I was going to get into roof, facade, k-render, masonry, brick etc restoration like you do I would personally get a doff type setup myself. Tensid and others also hire them out if you want one for a specific large job that you may want to consider too.

Darran I'll email you In the morning when I've had a word with MAC I've got their price list in the office somewhere!
-
Here's one on eBay, looks like a home made adaption, not a bad price

Lavor boilers are poope compared to the mazzoni ones, get them side by side and see which one you would spend your money on.

Mazzoni are about the best - Teha are the best in my opinion but at 5K for a boiler I'd expect it to do the dishes after dinner on a sunday as well!
-
Mike - I saw that, you put a hex on it as its sold !!!
Cheers smurf - was looking at tensid hire cost not bad at £200 for the week, just a pig going to get it and return
Ben - please let me know the cost, may have to do some begging with Mrs smudger before she lets me have one :-[

Restorative Techniques will deliver the Thermatech Daz.
Had a go with that on some cladding and it wasn't suited to what we wanted it to do, but I will be getting one in the future I think as they certainly would cut time down on a lot of jobs.

Thx Simon
Hope your keeping busy 👍
