Title: lateral clamps con.....
Post by: stevieg on November 03, 2015, 08:10:53 am
I detest lateral clamps!!! There, ive said it.  Cannot see the advantage of these clamps that spin and constantly loosen themselves all day bloody long. And yes i do include all pole manufacturers!! Does anyone out there make a pole with the old style clamps?
Or can i get some from somewhere to revert my poles?

Stevieg if your referring to the Gardiner mark 1 smart clamp I couldn't agree more, but he has replaced them with
a newer version that has solved this problem, I haven't tried them yet just going by what Iv heard.
Might be worth fitting a few of these new types just to see if it solves your problem, I actually like the old Gardiner clamps
which I still have on my everyday pole I'm dreading the day when I have to change it so it must be the best looked after pole
on the planet.
My longer poles have the mark 1 smart clamps which I will let stay as they are as I don't use them that much but they are a terrible
clamp.

That's good to know Dave, like I have said my everyday pole is overdue a change and if the smart clamp hadn't changed
I would have been looking elsewhere.

Steve  what you need to do is get your thumb moving sideways, if you can achieve this the clamps really easy,  also you won't slice as many golf ball's.

Hi Stevieg

Clamps correctly set-up and working properly should not spin and loosen themselves off. You do not mention which brand of lateral clamps you have - although there are many types available they are not all equal in ability.

If you have some of our older clamps that are now not working correctly, then please drop me an email with exactly what is the problem as there will usually be a solution to get them working properly again. If it is another brand of pole that you are having issues with then it may be worth contacting the manufacturer and asking their advice.

Hi Ray

How old is the SLX35 that you are having issues with? Depending on its age there are perhaps things that can be done to improve the usability of the clamps. Which part is spinning on the clamps?

A mate of mine has the Phoenix  pole and he's tried laquer and adjusting  clamps but doesn't want to know poles only about 8 months old clamps are garbage
Would like to know what pole your mate is using jk and could pretty sure it would be older than 8 months on inspection. Phoenix clamps are highly regarded for ease of use, speed, etc over lateral

Why were you gonna use lateral clamps on the Neon pole then?

Ive joined up with stephen fox has co-designer,  and  will be bringing some serious wfp equipment out in the near future.
And i must say the clamps have improved,  which i truly believe are the easiest clamps to use.

Steven.

KS not sure where you heard that? No intention of using lateral on the Neon.

I've got an older slx with upgraded clamps and the most annoying issue I've had is the glue coming loose. I know I'll be told I never prepared the surface but those wee glue sachets are murder! Mix it and try to re-glue a few clamps and by half way it's difficult to work with. >:(

I've got three clamps spinning now, the first two had been taped and clamped with  jubilee clips for some time so I'll be ordering some glue tomorrow.

I don't see the issue with operating lateral clamps, it's just a flick of your thumb, or am I missing something with these other types?

Araldite Rapid.  I've repaired plenty of spinning clamps and none of them has ever needed a second repair.  If you have the time normal 24 hr Araldite also works but it stays runny for an hour or so, so is harder to use without runs down the pole.

The newest clamps have a little ridge on the clamp body that sits inside the lever so the lever can't flop and spin - very clever.
I think some people are referring to spinning pole sections where the pole wears. You don't  get this with the smart clamps - my poles wear so thin they snap before the clamp gives up.
