Ive been doing now for 5 years calling on behalf of this industry, and I always feel that there is a severe problem with self doubt, some have confidence issues, some are very confident - funny old industry
-
???
-
Dave Ive worked for a fair few window cleaners over the last 5 years, and the confidence issues are quite ripe - to be asked "what shall I wear to go and quote" and along side many other things - its very surprising when you send people on commercial quotes how nervous they get
-
Some people are just more comfortable than others at certain things, many window cleaners are one man operators with no sounding board and limited exposure to corporate etiquette.
I'm sure you'd be a bit nervous if someone threw you into an army exercise and expected you to gain the respect of your comrades.
I think you'd fail, as by your post you seem to carry a fair bit of contempt for us 'cleaners'
Darran
-
I dont think so Darran, and there you have contempt in what you have just said, So you have actually confirmed your reaction to what I have said I have worked 5 years with cleaners, windows, contract, etc - you have instantly hit out........nobody is knocking anybody, its just what I experience and have experienced for a very long time - certainly not a novice in this field

Are you the one that pops up about once a year and ends up in a slanging match then disappears?
-
No, that was Katy1 or Katy2 or Katy3 - I think she fancied a chap called Cozy on here.
-
Yea thats me

Totally different Katy then.
-
But I always preferred you Dave :) lol
-
8 Weekly how could I carry anything if I work in the industry? thats slightly odd? I make a living from it...................

So, this thread and above post is trying to achieve what exactly, ?
Darran

Nothing really just relating experiences, as I am sure that you possibly do. Thats a forum isnt it?

Subliminal advertising probably - not that I blame her. It's fair game I suppose just reminding people that you're still around. I would probably do it too.
-
not really not allowed anything in tag lines etc, just sharing experiences, and how things move on, and what goes on, but i havent done windows for two years - so really just catching up about the industry
-
That's fair enough Walter, but Katy just flies off the handle at what appears to be no good reason and has had many a rambling post/thread which has been great news for becci swan.
Perhaps we should have a thread " why are some telesales people paranoid"

OK, I vaguely remember a thread or two now.
Think I'll get out of the crossfire and have an early night :)

I think she has a point. Whether it's unique to this industry though is debatable. There seems to be a lot of shiners that are JWs and for some reason quite a few recovering alkies. I think Tosh is a recovering alkie who is also a JW so maybe he's who Katy is referring to. He does like attention, perhaps he has confidence issues.
I do find it odd that someone who apparently wants to build a business and strive out in the world of self-employment can't knock on a door to sell themselves.
-
I think katy has raised a good point as individuals can be great at what they do on the tools but can lack confidence on marketing and gaining new business which is the most important thing in my book. It's very rare bread that can actually wear more hats than one and be good at all aspects of operating a profitable business. That is why I think most fail within a short space of time.
-
I don't know about lack of confidence but I do get the feeling that a lot of shiners are embarrassed by how they earn a
living, you just need to look at all the bragging about earnings you get on here which is something you wouldn't get as much of in
other professions.

I think discussing pricing is one thing but most would never divulge what they actually earn (gross turnover) as is none of anyone’s business especially on an open forum like this surely.

Got some of my dad's old vinyls out and stayed in bed all day.
Was brilliant.

I'm not sure, he does spend a lot of time reading and quoting from The Watchtower. ;D

I don't reckon QL meant Jehovah's Witness. ;D
-
I was not referring at all to Tosh, I dont know the chap.
I was merely observing that through the business, there is alot of lack of confidence when going on appointments, that was all, and a chap above made a very good point, you have to have a different hat on at all times. That was all really. Anything I have read of Tosh is always articulate
-
katy! 2 sugars.......... ;D
-
Only joking!
The guys who do good in the window cleaning business are the ones who are confident and can carry out all tasks associated with it!
If you can canvass, clean, book commercial appointments, impress at your appointments and retain work then your onto a winner!
Without confidence then you can still do well just you will always be behind the guys with the added confidence!
Its no big issue either way! Depends what path each individual wants to take.
-
On another note I have 600 follows on twitter- how the heck has that happened?
-
Is this the same bird that gets smashed out her face on red wine and then decides to talk a load of b0l0x on the Internet? Or was that another Katy?

Mind you, I shouldn't laugh because I used to do it. Well, I still talk b0l0x I just don't need a drink to do it. ;)
-
um to call yourself 8 weekly theres dubious issues going on there? something to prove? 8 weekly sounds like a confidence issue - see right through it

Katy, would you ever consider making a video ?
-
maybe, whos paying? 8 weekly? this a fundamental thing of how the mind works, I have to state " I work 8 weekly" and here we go again, just by user name, thats very odd - so in your user name "8 weekly" are you trying to prove something? I have no idea

No idea about 8 weekly, though it doesn't seem odd to me. Thats what he does. I was more thinking about you getting on the wine, then making a video showing us your tips ? ;D

Do I detect a lack of confidence?

I don`t know why Katy even shows her face on here after her history on this forum. You boys must be board even responding to her winding up attempt. It always end in someone being sorry and leaving with her tail between her legs. If it was me trying to achieve a response like this I would rather move on and go play on a railway line or something of that nature. At least we don`t need a skin full of plonk to talk on a forum. That`s confidence for you, The pot calling the kettle black.Slam the door behind you, when you leave. Miss Pot ;D ;D ;D
-
It's easy to see if a window cleaner is a JW,there van is parked up 3 days a week they hardly work I can't see it myself.
-

Speak for yourself. It certainley helps me. And i'm sure some of the over confident ones on here are on the coke.......
-
This lady should call herself thick skinned rhino.
-
Don`t bash the JW they are fine fellas and some one we all respect is one and a good chap. So stop it.

Who's that then? What's the betting SeanK will post below thinking it's him. ;D

Even though my van is usually parked up for three days and I do hardly any work as far as I know I'm not a JW but thanks anyway Slap. ;D
-

I don't think anyone generally has a problem with them as individuals; for many it's more about an odd belief system and the attempts to impart that to others on here. Thankfully, most jws on here don't misuse the forum to proselityse and I respect that
-
I was on an estate down the road a couple of days ago. There was an old bird knocking on doors with leaflets in her hand. She seemed very pleasant. I always find JWs are actually very nice approachable, friendly people. It's a breath of fresh air usually.
They do walk very slowly don't they.
-

G. Griffin's a JW? Well knock me down with a feather! Who'd a thunk it?

Are you trying to tell me I'm not loved and respected by everyone on here, I'm shocked. :o ;D

Sounds like Katy doesn't know what growth is.
You just don't start at something and are the best at the first instance. These things take practice.
I used to be scared stiff going to commercial quotes, now I lead the conservation and I'm very comfortable.
How did I do this? Practice.

Maybe Katy fails to get enough appointments so her clients don't get enough practice?
-
The difference is Katy is very good at getting you a foot in the door to be able to quote on commercial contracts by the means of telesales so you just pay for her time. However if you can't win the work for whatever reason then that is down to you. Hence why she made the comment about lack of confidence in the industry as some cleaners seem to struggle with the concept of selling themselves to clients due to lack of confidence. That’s all she was trying to say so what is the big deal chaps? ::)roll

I believe that it is all down to our attitude towards people. I have seen comments posted on here in the past discussing whether canvassing or leaflets are the way to go. Those who dislike canvassing tend to be those who dislike canvassers knocking on their own door, and who are unpleasant to them. My guess is that they fear the same treatment.
Now I am not the most confident person, but I try to treat people the way I like to be treated, and coupled with my presentation being well rehearsed, for me canvassing my work myself was a successful way to get started. Nowadays, work now finds me as I am now established enough not to need to go out looking for more.
I am not knocking Katy, or anyone else who looks to start up or expand using other means. We all have our experiences of what works for us.

She makes a valid point IMO.
It's not about growth, personal growth, she means there's always a queue of new start-ups who haven't got the bottle to go out door knocking, cold calling. It surprises me too, the amount of threads on here that start something like 'What do you say when you knock?'
It's never bothered me personally and nowadays I'm very comfortable should I ever knock uninvited. Like you James I lead the conversation, my confidence is a good seller I believe. But there's always going to be guys, that don't have the confidence to sell themselves coming through the pipeline, crapping themselves when they go door knocking. Perhaps they 'know' window cleaning is a 'wasters' job and all they're doing is selling themselves as wasters, which isn't going to make anyone feel great.
-
In the beginning, I had the choice to door knock or pay a canvasser . Anyway, after talking to Kapre , decided to give it a go first and then if I fail, then employ a canvasser.
I decided to start of not far from my house on a nice road and the first house I tried- they wanted a window cleaner! Totally underpriced it as I didn't have a clue how to price up jobs , then followed the route back to my house knocking on every door. Ended up with a reasonably compact underpriced round lol
-
Lol.

The hardest part on commercial canvassing can be getting past the gatekeepers to speak to the decision makers to start with. Then gaining appointment so cleaners are able to meet the decision makers in person and then be able to sell themselves/ quote for work. That is what experienced telesales like Katy do best.

What was your user name before Crapinon? Is Katy any good? Anyone had experience of using her?
-
I haven't. I've had experience of another female canvasser from on here. I wouldn't use canvassers again on a commercial basis unless my situation changes dramatically.

Did you use that Marje person or can you recommend anyone. I'll tell her not to call care homes in Reading. ;)

No, not come across him. Becci Swan I seem to recall was the one everyone seemed to want to "get to know". ;D

Thats her.

I'm been called many names but some I can't repeat ;D

Thats her.
I've stuck something on People Per Hour.

It's not confidence in the industry I struggle with .............. It's the bedroom after long shifts ;D
I think with commercial work which is what I do, you never really walk into a job and walk out with the contract, sometimes your planting seeds for next year or the year after. Partly true is about getting past the gate keeper but also find out who Is the correct person to speak to.
Arrange a meeting have a walk round the site, you may see a sign/advertising board or sutton that's been neglected but would only take 5 mins wfp so throw it in for free, commercial jobs love getting little jobs done for nothing
You have to think outside the box if your guna be the special one

The bedroom bit must be an age related thing as not many partners fancy it when they get older. All that humping about would put yer back out and probably lead to a heart attack but what a way to go ;D
-
Lack of confidence... If everyone was so confident she wouldn't have a job for a start. Try dealing with some of my customers and then bang on about confidence haha
-
It's just Katy again looking for work.
-
Poooooof....
And she's gone again
-
I never knew she was one ???
