Very sad but was a very stupid thing to do all the same. ???

Very sad and horrible way to go . We all have cut corners in past and thought how lucky we were to get away with it his luck ran out so lets all think about how we work . If it looks risky then say no to job .

It beggers belief what bad practices still goes on in this day and age and I'm sure the poor chap will not be the last to die attempting to clean a poxy bit of glass.

he d probably cleaned that window hundreds of times no problem.
i know a retired decorator who had never had a fall in 45 years working off ladders then he was painting his house and ladder slipped sideways and he broke his collarbone and damaged vertebrae in his back. :(

"It will never happen to me" old school types at any age taking risks in any trade it sadly does happen way to often as they are not as invincible as they think they are.
As someone said you can't cheat gravity...The falling part is easy but the sudden stop at the end hurts like hell. Well that's what I found anyway. Oops! ;D

I have done it in the past we all prob have somewhere
Going back many years working for a firm on job and knock, job in Ormskirk, office 4 stories high, ( 3 floors above shops ) had a concrete ledge about 4" thick at bottom of windows and same along top, the ground around the building was sloped so would get it at one end and shimmy along the ledge around the building......... At the time we used to think it was hilarious coz we would do the job in just over a hour, book in most of the day
Wouldn't dare dream of doing some of the things back then today.
Still a very sad time for his family tho, even if you don't agree with his style of work.

What a nightmare.
I used to do daft things too.
These days, I turn work away if unhappy with safety stuff.

I had a bit of a problem with this, a while back. Some chap was prepared to go up 4 storeys on a ladder, I would have been a very irresponsible person to allow that - it was a hotel - I dont mind a few feet up, but no. The chap started to argue, just said, sorry Im not risking your health for the sake of money
