Title: Using prefilters

For any of you that use a rain water harvesting system or even if you dont but know the answer, would you use prefilters say sediment and carbon ones before your DI?

I ask as i seem to be using a bit more resin that normal, the tds of the water is around 010 normally but always 000 out of DI, another thing im thinking it may be the resin itself is just a poor one using Tulsen

So should I have the filters in place anyway or should I bother with them?

You wont need a carbon as that's for removing chlorine but a sediment filter would stop grit and smaller particles
getting into your resin.
Don't know if it would help with its lifespan though.

I've found a sediment filter has no affect on reducing rainwater ppm whatsoever before it hits the di tank/s. The only thing it does as already mentioned it filters out the crud in the rain havesting tank and slows the water down before it hits the resin.

I have a diy filter before the rainwater gets into the storage tank and before it goes into tank in van so the amount of crude would be minimal id say, so really the prefilters dont sound like they will of any real use to me, maybe the resin is shot or just a poor bag i dunno

I never used pre filters when I rainwater harvested as any gunge would be filtered out by resin
