I don't 'advertise' my course at all. Look all the way back to the beginning of the last thread that got over 2,700 views (a lot of website traffic mods) and other people mentioned the course, not me. Other people bring it up as a point of discussion. I said I didn't want the thread to be blocked because of it.
But lo and behold, at the mere mention of my saying I pay someone else for advertising, it is blocked. Other forum members pay for advertising on other forums and their threads aren't blocked.
What's the crack? Is this a dictatorial rulership of the forum? A 'We don't acknowledge other forums exist' or 'we don't think other forums could possibly offer better value than us' attitude or what?
I think I bring something to this forum, it may not be to everyone's tastes admittedly, but I drive a lot of traffic here.
Mods - look back through the thread stats by different OP's for the last two years. You will find there are very few, if any other forum member who's threads have had more more page views and generated more interest than mine. That's value.
What I'm trying to find out is why a thread that has generated so much interest has been blocked with no warning. What forum rule did I break? Please can you quote it here so that I can see it?
I have never used foul language, obscenities, been personally vindictive or overly aggressive, unlike some people on here who cast aspersions about other members being tax evaders, discuss their criminal activity or alleged criminal activity or accuse them of being plain thick.
Where is the fairness? It's ok for an individual to be discussed over alleged or proven criminal activity and become a laughing stock in everyone's eyes, but I mention that I advertise on another forum and I get blocked? Where is your moral compass pointing?
I didn't even say they were related to the window cleaning industry so may not be competitors of yours anyway. I'm not stupid enough to name the forums on here, then I know I'm asking for the thread to be blocked if they are related to other window cleaning forums. My business is heavily related to the electrical and renewables industries too, who themselves have numerous forums.
A forum, by its very definition, is a medium for open discussion and the mods should be open to the idea that other forums do exist in other industries. Be brave and leave this thread open. If you don't want to leave it open, at least please allow me to voice my opinion.

Maybe if you contributed to the forum in other ways then they might a bit more lenient. You only seem to pop up to promote yourself.
Just saying like,
I'm surprised they let you advertise your websites at the bottom of your page too.
Other people have cottoned on to using the forum to promote themselves but do it less aggressively.

There is a big difference between the two as Solar Steve offers ppl work if they want it and Rhinoman don't so I don't see what the problem is myself ???

I'm a mod, but I'm not going to e-mail you. Why? Advertising aint my thing. I will remove/delete/remove posts/users if I think they're going to spam the place up. I will also make the distinction between a small start up (more leeway) and someone who is established. I'd consider you to be established, so less leeway. But that's just me. Mods don't get any direction on how to moderate (apart from the direction I receive from Quarter Light, which I just smile at).
But really, you ought to complain to Admin, not the mods. We're just glorified members with a few extra buttons.
Admin is the one to speaky to.

This forum runs quite well , we all have our moments .
But over the years it's been very beneficial to me . I never knew about Slx's and amery heaters until this forum . Plus the aqua-adaptor

Alex doesn't pay to advertise here, he just let's his customers do it for him. He answers questions if his customers ask them and he has also helped others out with general window cleaning matters too.
If any supplier wants to learn how to 'advertise' without paying the going rates, they ought to take a look at Alex's back posts.

I think you've raised a valid question here.
I think you have to remember that this isn't a democracy it's a forum, it's run on a commercial basis, and to a degree it paralels you and how you use the forum ( I've do not want to share information or let others be aware they can find it elsewhere )
I'm not knocking you, because most of us wish to improve our business and like to share success - I love it!! I would read those threads all day, but at the same time you need to me prepared to chat about how you got the work, how you overcome a problem etc... People soon get naffed off with the "look at me posts" that have no substance
I also have sympathy as others will just rip everyone and everything apart this is partly the style of the forum where anyone can pretend to be anything they want - who knows want sort of biz they really run.
Take the forum for what it is, a mish mash of people that can let off steam, poke fun, and have a laugh.
Serious business is done outside of this place

I feel your pain Bro. You're being invited to lecture around the Globe on Solar Panel issues and they don't like you touting your courses on here . Try posting a thread how to clean Solar Panels safely or something given your experience and share it, i'd be certain it wouldn't get locked. Like some of the other guys who do helpful...."How to's..."

Right from the start Steve you have used this forum to post spammy links to your website and use it to generate traffic for your own personal gain, much the same as that Rhino fella does.
You keep saying that it's not you that mentions your 'training' course it's other members, but by the very definition of you requiring potential sub contractors to pay for your course it absolutely has to be relevant and mentioned.
I'll admit I've been one of your harshest critics on here, but if you look back to your first 'how good am I, I've just won X contract' Post, I was actually the first to congratulate you, and genuinely meant it. However since then your constant self congratulation has become rather tedious.
Good luck in the future but if you genuinely believe that you should be able to continue posting on here the way you do, without paying as an advertiser, then you are wrong, again.

well I did the cleaning course myself today , 4 hours each way a nice meal and a few drinks total cost around 400 quid was it worth it ??
yes it was every penny , some great info on the dos and donts of cleaning solar panels , and ive got to say it was run very very well , having done many hazchem courses in the past this was as every bits as professional as them
I met some great guys on the course as well , from one van guys/girls to people like ourselves running three vans and more , very good atmosphere lots of questions answered and two bookings from stev covering a lot more then we spent
after all the haters had a go on here I was abit take it or leave it , well happy I did it now and looking forward to working more with everybody I met up with today ,I couldn't belive how friendly people were unlike on here lol

your right david you know what its like being a landlord it was a night mare when I sold off 5 of my houses such a limted time to reinvest the profits befoure they come in and take there share you must of been though it yourself being such a good buissness man

Another poster who likes to brag at every opportunity, if it's not low mileage vans ( if you can call 4 year old vans with 60 K on the clock low mileage ;D ) it's the property portfolio.

Thanks for the open and fair response Tosh. Mitch seems to send me emails about advertising on here. I don't know where he is in the CIU hierarchy. Is he able to lock threads?
Surely mods should be given some direction on how to moderate? Otherwise it becomes a personal thing instead of a regulated forum. How are we as forum users supposed to know what's acceptable unless there are guidelines?
I am not looking to push any barriers, but dos and don'ts would surely benefit all? Are you mods able to speak to each other and pin a locked thread that we can all read and receive some pointers?

Yeah, good stuff Darran.
In the past, way back, I did offer loads of comments solely to do with window cleaning, prior to even thinking about solar panel cleaning. If you look back through the early SPC posts, I did offer help to people, but the mocking and 'conman' comments became more prevalent, so I closed up and changed both the reasons and my style of using the forum. To my mind, the best way to shut critics up is by showing your success. I try not sink to their levels of just winding people up for the sake of it.
This is a great forum, that's why I expect to be able to do business on here. It has proved to be a very valuable business tool for me.
Alex G has what I see, to be a very specific role on here. He offers advice on poles and constantly promotes his products and rightly so in my opinion. There are few, if anyone in the country who knows more about poles than Alex. Dazmond maybe. But Alex is a very professional and shrewd businessman who comments on his 'specialist' subject.
I feel I have nothing to offer regarding window cleaning that no one else can say. There are a lot of knowledgeable window cleaners on here who post very useful info and there is little more I can offer.
As a result, I post only on my 'specialist' subject, solar.
The 'look at me' posts as you phrase them are taken as a 'come and join me' posts by some on here who have adenine interest in solar work. The more I've posted about how my business has progressed, the more members have contacted me who have helped my business expand further. As a result, we get more work for all of our Approved Contractors.
The more people who join us, the stronger we all become and the more work we all get. It's been a winning formula.

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm glad you had a good day. Hazchem courses are excellent quality, so it's a great compliment to be compared to them.
We are a community and may well do an annual event for all of our Approved Contractors. It would be good to get everyone under one roof to discuss ideas. :)

So how much are these courses Steve, what do they entail and what do you get workwise once you've completed a course ? And do you have areas like franchises? Is that what it basically is that you're selling, a franchise ?

Right from the start Steve you have used this forum to post spammy links to your website and use it to generate traffic for your own personal gain, much the same as that Rhino fella does.
You keep saying that it's not you that mentions your 'training' course it's other members, but by the very definition of you requiring potential sub contractors to pay for your course it absolutely has to be relevant and mentioned.
I'll admit I've been one of your harshest critics on here, but if you look back to your first 'how good am I, I've just won X contract' Post, I was actually the first to congratulate you, and genuinely meant it. However since then your constant self congratulation has become rather tedious.
Good luck in the future but if you genuinely believe that you should be able to continue posting on here the way you do, without paying as an advertiser, then you are wrong, again.
'Right from the start', I commented on window, gutter and driveway cleaning. I didn't even do SPC.
And I don't advertise. I don't need to. You do the advertising for me.

Thanks for the open and fair response Tosh. Mitch seems to send me emails about advertising on here. I don't know where he is in the CIU hierarchy. Is he able to lock threads?
I'm pretty sure Mitch is Admin; he's the head honcho over this kind of stuff.
Surely mods should be given some direction on how to moderate? Otherwise it becomes a personal thing instead of a regulated forum. How are we as forum users supposed to know what's acceptable unless there are guidelines?
Mods are recruited from it's members, we're all volunteers. The board should be moderated by it's members. I think most forums run this way? We just use our common sense. And whilst not everyone will agree with a mod's decision, or Admin's decision, then the choices are either to live with it, or walk.
I am not looking to push any barriers, but dos and don'ts would surely benefit all? Are you mods able to speak to each other and pin a locked thread that we can all read and receive some pointers?
I'm not going to because I don't see the need. If Admin/Mitch has asked you not to advertise without paying the going rate, don't advertise. Or pay. As I said earlier, I give leeway to those that I think are new start ups and aren't dodgy, but I don't class you as a new start up. That's just me, other mods do things their way.

I locked the thread Steve and I'm happy to tell you why.
We (the mods - who work under the guidance of forum admin) have a list of those who advertise and when someone advertises who isn't on the list we either use our judgement or seek advice in the moderators area.
If we played rigidly by the rules then as soon as someone posts something that might be viewed as breaking the rules then every swear word asterisked or otherwise could result in a ban and every post saying can anyone lend me hand in the XXX area to do a big one-off job would count as advertising for sub-contractors.
So in your case having received more than one complaint from forum members about your posting I sought advice from admin. The advice returned gave me suggested options to work within and I chose one - which was to lock the thread.

No, the forum owner is called Mike; he owns Express Cleaning. I'm guessing Mitch is an employee of Mike's, though as I say, that's just a guess.
As mods, we're just regular forum members, with a couple of extra buttons to amend posts or give naughty members the boot.

advertising on here is £1000 a year or £1200 cant remember but can be paid over 12 months interest free ... not sure what you get for that possibly a fixed post at top of the page

It seems trolling and swearing is acceptable but doing more than your average man for business isn't. This puzzles me with it being a business forum, but hey ho. As a I say. At least now I know. Thanks for the honesty Granville. :)
