Title: facilities.......
Post by: Tim Downer on May 09, 2006, 08:59:21 pm
Hi all
As you all should be aware of by now, i am going to start out on my own the begining of next month.
I will still carry on cleaning - but hopefully the plan will be to concentrate on this in 6 - 8 months time. In the meantime, i have purchased a porterage / facilities business in a very large office........already spoken to the facilities manager regarding the cleaning there!!

What i would like to know, is that for those of you who may encompass this type of work in their business.......other than the mail drops around the building, changing dead tubes and bulbs and light maintenance work......what else, if any, do you offer in your services.

I am looking to expand the service that is already in place and was thinking of suggestions.

Kind Regards

Tim

I was being serious Tim, just trying to help out your new business, I post a reply to your question you log off (2330hrs);D

If you grew ur fringe a little and held a microphone to your mouth u'd look a bit like Ian Curtis's older brother from another marriage....  in the right light ;D

How about grounds maintenance, decorating, drain clearing, carpark cleaning.  You could always sub out the work and add on your profit.  Quote for ancillaries such as dust mats, air freshners etc.

I'm assuming you will already have the work for deep cleans, descaling and replacing broken toilet seats, chains, washers etc.

Can't think of much else at the mo, but it is early!  ;D

Hi Tim,

I sub out sanitary ware and mats, i have phs do all the work and i put the profit on top..easy as that!  I also supply t.rolls, paper hand towels, soap etc, another nice little extra is to supply and launder t.towels and hand towels, i do this(the wife really!) and i take them round the contracts, its a nice ice breaker and it gives you a chance to have a chat with your clients on a non formal level. ;)

Thank you guys for your comments.......not too sure about selling DVD's etc  ;D

The grounds maintenance is being taken care of at the moment, however the decorating has already been discussed as a potential added service between myself and the Facilities manager.

I have my eye on the Janitorial suplies and will ask him how much they are paying for it. Phs do the matting etc......so may take that aswell!!

General light maintenance is part of the contract, however, broken loo seats, chains etc could be an extra service to think about. There are around 12 sets of toilets, half male and half female, with around 3 - 5 cubicles in each area. So large potential for here, especially the janitorial supplies  ;D

They do use seperate companies to fix electrical problems, air conditioning etc etc......so was thinking of getting other companies involved by subcontacting these out.......and make some on each job.......but will mull over this when i have been there for a few weeks.

Thank you again for your replies......and if anyone has other suggestions i would appreciate your comments.

Regards

Tim

Tim

What about professional stone floor maintenance? Please don't think I mean crystallisation or vitrfication, I am vehemently opposed to those processes - but the re-honing/polishing of marbles, limestones, granites etc....

Have a look at my web site for examples of the work I do.

Thank you David, i was impressed by the finish on that Hotel Lobby area on the before and after picture.
Yes, there is a lot of marble flooring at this office.......infact the facilities manager mentioned that a local company was coming in to do a free demonstration to show how well they can come up!! Will have to find out when they are doing it and how much they intend to charge for the job........and their method of course!!

Hi Tim
We used to clean marble and limestone and it was a very lucrative business to be in.

Tim

I will leave it to you, but if you feel there is mileage in it for you to include this in your services then I will happily do a demonstration for the facilities manager as a direct comparison to the other company. I also have many more pictures of jobs that can be supplied if required.
You can e-mail me via the web site or ring me if you need to discuss further

Thank you for your offer David.
I will enquire about the floor with the customer and find out if they have done anything about their marble floors yet with the other company.
