Title: web sites costs
Post by: johnny bravo on September 22, 2015, 10:31:26 pm
hi all,
a local company   localRus   must have been searching the internet trying to get custom,
anyway   they sent details of prices,        what is the average price you would pay for a web site and hosting to get on google search engines .
there price is £299 for web site,     £35 per month for hosting etc.

i thought its too much,  especially paying £35 every month.

i have my own site through GBBO,     all i pay is around £65 per year.
can anyone let me know if i can do my own hosting and optimising my site through yola google site builder.

any ideas of how much it costs to get it up when people are looking for my services in my areas.

My opinion as a web designer is that there should EITHER be a big upfront cost and a very small ongoing fee - or zero upfront cost and a reasonable monthly fee,... if you're paying both then you're being ripped off.

If you have the time and the skills you can build your own website for next to nothing - pro cloud hosting is very cheap (Try tsohost.com) a domain name costs £8 ish a year, and there are free options for almost everything else.

Personally I'd advise using any "site builder" type options though - often the results aren't smartphone friendly, and the custom code from the site builder instantly alerts Google to the fact that its a DIY job and rankings often suffer. Use Wordpress & a paid theme would be my advice...

Johnny
I built my own website (as Nat mentioned) using wordpress and a popular theme (avada).
My hosting is with Heart Internet about £9 per month (not the cheapest but ok) and the theme cost me about £45.
Have a look...

So the cost has been minimal, but you do have to invest some time and have an idea of what you are doing. I used to be a graphic designer and copywriter so that helped...(or perhaps not)! Anyway I just fancied doing it for the hell of it and to give my brain something to do.
To cut a long story short, unless you have a good idea of design, websites or seo then get someone else to do it for you.
Nat has an excellent reputation on here and, although I have never used his services, that would be my starting point. Not some company that just contacted me out of the blue!

Do you provide an SEO only service?

Hi Nath,
i built mine with Yola,   part of Google,   GBBO, getting  bussinesses online.
ill  log in and have a look round,  they have a Q+A site,  they are very good at replying and helping you out.

Ive never bothered with getting my site pushed up in the search engines  for people searching in there areas where they live for our services.      but im looking into set up driveway cleaning again,    + gutter cleaning,       but i would like to make it more vissible for when people are searching for these services.

Im also thinking of getting my van  sign written + graphics  to get more noticeable to advertise my work.     If things go as they are now i should be comfortable with window cleaning work,       then a day or so spare for different work   to keep it more exciting.
cheers Nat :D ;)

Hi Anthony,

TS1 Cleaning here,    Iam going to decline your offer of setting me up with a web-site and Monthly payments.      I think the only thing i may be interested in is getting my website up there in google search engines for people looking for my services in and around Middlesbrough when looking for,

Window Cleaning,

Conservatory Cleaning,

Gutter Cleaning,

Driveway Cleaning,

If you can do this for me let me know what i would be expected to pay for this to happen.

Thanks, Andy

Robbo,  why do you advertise 8 weekly clean,   wouldnt you be better with a 4 weekly clean, more cash income

Nope - SEO is something that realistically has to be built into the site from the beginning & is very hard to patch on later - - its also an area where its impossible to guarantee results - - any company that does (The majority to be honest) is most likely trying to pull a fast one & should be avoided!
