I came into window cleaning after 22 years working in IT, since all the technical jobs are being moved offshore to India, China etc...  (also because I'm a bit fed up with IT at the moment TBH).  Now I find out that there's a 66% chance my job will be taken over by a robot....

The only consolation is that there are another 132 jobs out of 366 that are more likely to be automated.

its not gonna happen mate.even if they made a machine that could clean outside windows, frames and sills, conny roofs,f/s/g s and solar panels.it would be very expensive.

the media like to ramp up the FEAR all the time(jobs, the economy, terror attacks, weather etc)

I agree with you Daz. I just think it's interesting how they get to this figure of 66%. The only way to make this commercially viable would be for the robots to clean vast expanses of glass  (ie: commercial jobs) or maybe even solar panel arrays. I can't see robots doing domestic window cleaning.

I reckon that certain types of building could be reasonably cleaned already by "robot."  I have seen some clips of this happening.  It would just need some machine developed like a portable automatic car wash that uses de-ionised water.  It would need a human to set it up though and to keep an eye on it.  If such a device were built onto new buildings it woud probably work quite well.  However, I'm referring to large office buildings where the windows are laid out in a particular way.  I couldn't see such devices being viable for residential work or for many of the current builds.

There are already automated window cleaning systems available  for large high buildings.

-
Some are already cleaned by robots. Have you had a good look at some of the windies in your area. ;D ;D ;D ;D

-
Some days I feel like a robot.

-
It will never happen on domestics

They probably will be cleaned by robots, but we will be the people who own the robots.  Not every domestic home owner will have a window cleaning robot.

Also you can already get robots to mow you lawn or Hoover your house. They're for sale on the high street.
People still have cleaners and people who now their lawn

I think the only robot still cleaning domestic windows will be the humble window cleaner.
How many already own a karcher window vac and can't be arsed to use them?  ;D

I don't think it was him or the dog.

And don't get too complacent about robots; C-3PO has been canvassing my round with a trolley system he's made out of R2-D2.

;D then K-9 will come along leave a sh*t just to annoy c-3po
