What makes them leak?
Mine has just started to drip - just wondered what actually wears on them - is there an internal seal that can't be accessed?
It's been on the reel for years.

I think you have answered your own question
-
If you take it off the reel and look inside it, there's an allen key slot (they can be very tight), undo it and wrap some ptfe around the thread. I do this when they're new and don't get any problems our Dave.

:D I just took it apart. Yes, there's an internal rubber seal inside too but looks impossible to change.
-
As you have had your monies worth out of it best treat yourself to another one and hopefully that one will last as long ;)

I tend to get a couple of years out of mine. As soon as they start to drip, I just replace. Can get them for about £10'on fleabay.

Internal seal is a oring size 14mm x2.5mm. Once you taken it apart get stanley knife and gently pry it out. It takes less than 5 min to replace it.

anyone know what size thread these bugers are to fit a hoselock reel?

Hozelock use their own unique thread on the side of their reels, so you cannot get these brass elbows to fit.
