hi guys
i purify about 3000 liters of water a week
the water goes from
outside tap
to
SPECTRUM Stainless Steel RO Membrane Housing, 4" x 40", 1/2" ports
to
NW-BRK02 2 Stages Water Filter 20Inch - 508mm 5µ Sediment Filter (going from carbon to sediment filters)
to
di system 11ltr (resin)
but recently my water has been rising to over 100 after a couple days and i change my carbon and sediment filters and resin and after 4 days the water shoots back up to 100 on the tds reading.
i currently have about 75% waste water
the membrane on the stainless steel housing was only changed a few months ago
i have also tried to flush the system out but it still does it
any info or advice would be great
nothing to technical tho pleas hahah
thanks guys

Hi,
Your water filters should be before the membrane
eg
1.Sediment Filter
2.Carbon Filter
3. Membrane
4. DI
If you really do have the membrane as the first stage, then i have little doubt that it will be knackered as it has been used in the wrong place
-
sorry i do do it that way i got confused
-
What is your tap TDS?
What is the TDS of the water after the membrane and before DI

This ^^^^
You have a fault somewhere in your system, so need to find out where.
It sounds like membrane hasn't been fitted properly and is letting unfiltered water through.

Hi mate
took readings from every section heres the results
from tap =409
from sediment and carbon =232
from membrane =148
fronm di =155 now grrrrrrrrr
-
how that figure went up i aint got a clue i have fitted it correct im sure just hope it aint fooked as its expensive to keep replacing but cosing me lots in resin and filters to try keep it down
-
Are you using a booster pump?
Have you got pressure gauges on your system, if so what are the readings?
If I was you I would definitely check the membrane is seated properly.
-
no i havent got a pressure Gage or booster pump
the pressure is very powerful from the outside tap i use
could you give me a bit of an insight of where you think its going wrong and how to check if the membrane is knackered
sorry if this sounds silly but how could the membrane move on a sealed secure housing unit
thanks
-
It's definitely a problem with your membrane. 148 is way too high.
I would take it apart and make sure it's assembled properly.
-
i thought it was the membrane but was really hoping it was not its costing me a fortune keep changing things driving me mad so any idea the best way to check the membrane please
-
Just a thought but have you also checked your waste valve is set correctly?
As 75% waste is a lot, usually 50-60% is about right.
If you close it up a touch is it having an effect on lowering the tds and increasing the pure output?
-
For start your readings are wrong, your sediment and carbon filter does not lower tds as they don't remove dissolved
solids.
I think your TDS meter could be playing up.
-
hi
i have changed the wastage to 60/40
and have took more tds readings
tap 409
filters 387
membrain 80
di 44 (and dropping)
-
is it advisable to get a bigger di unit the one i have is 11l
-
Sounds like the RO is shot..
I just had to replace mine after 18 months of use...I put 3000 litres through it a week too...18 months didn't sound like a lot to me but the guy at the cleaning warehouse said it was about right ???
-

No an 11 ltr resin vessel is fine, no need to change.

I think your TDS meter could be playing up.
In high tds areas the sediment and carbon can slightly lower tds. Takes out small bits of grit and sludge that are picked up by tds meters.
In lower tds areas though your right.

its coming out membrane 80
what should it be coming out at baring in mind it starts at 400 where i live
and then i think resin needs changing
so what should it be reading from the membrane is what im askin please ???

Anything under 20ppm from the membrane would be ideal.
But it can depend on if you are using a booster pump and the type of membrane you are using.
I use a HF4 membrane which from a tap tds of 280ppm wouldn't go below 30ppm until I got a booster pump which took it down to 8ppm.
-
and what would a booster pump achieve for me mate please
-
My area is 245 tds and it comes out my ro at 11..
-
Hi Darren what kind of waste tap do you use on the system??
Did you fit the membrane yourself??
-
yeah we did mate and tbh just got a normal round tap from cleaning spot mate whys that
-
only had it 6 months so really hoping that aint fooked mate theres so many factors costing me a fortune lol
-
There are a number of things that might cause this high tds..
Not fitting the membrane in correct way causing the rubber seal to twist out of position.. those dodgy pre drilled taps that have a hole preset in them..
70/30 ratio will be close to where you want to be.. start with your tap wide open and flushing keep closing the waste and checking the tds from the membrane and the tds will keep falling until you get to a point where the reading starts going back again up that's the correct way to set up your membrane..
If your readings still high after this then time your waste water into a bucket then the pure water and see how many litres per minute you get .. Might be as simple as not enough pressure.
-
i got a feeling avo
you could be right mate as soon as i changed the flow the reading came down but atm still coming out the membrane 80 ish ,really need to get to the bottom of it sooner rarther than later
-
What membrane is it?
400 to 80 is unacceptable that's 80% rejection rate and if it's under 12 months old I'd be sending it back.. providing there's no system issues .
-
Set up your system the way I said to see what's the best possible reading u get.. none of this guess work 60/40 or 70/30 they all run slightly different from one to the next...
I had issues 400 to 59 badly setup factory system but few changes 400 to 20

LEGEND THANKS AVO
