i have a 1000 litre tank which i am about to fit into a short wheelbase transit .can anyone tell me if there is a right or a wrong place to position the tank

hi is your tank baffled? as if its not it could be quite dangerous in a van as the water shifts around! I would say tank position should be between the front and rear axle so weight is balanced.

Yes there is a right and a wrong place.
Each axle has a max gross weight. The tank must be positioned in such a way that neither axle exceeds this weight. Have you checked your transits max payload? a 1000 ltr tank will weigh around 1100 kilos when full. Then you have all of the rest of your kit, fuel, passengers etc to take into account as well.

I would think a 1000ltr tank in a swb transit would just about be legal and thats without all your other equipment!!!
