Hi,
Obviously we all know that permanent furniture placement can crush a pile beyond repair.
Has anyone ever experienced this and could explain?
I cleaned and protected a loop pile wool Berber in one of my clients homes on Wed. MPower Fusion 8 overspray extracted at 180-200psi.
Carpet was dry the next day, I say next day because that's when they saw it after I left, may have been before. Anyway it was certainly only damp when I left.
I moved all furniture back and place a footstool in the middle of the room. It gets moved around frequently.
I've been told today that when it was moved this morning it has left indents that aren't going? Any ideas? Can't explain it, it was left on plastic tabs.
Will these go? I should think they will.
A very 'famous' client this and we do a lot for them so want to provide an explanation.

Any weight, especially if confined to small footprints will indent a carpet. This will occur more easily on damp carpet following cleaning, the plastic tabs won't make any difference. If in doubt place at the edge of the room rather than in a more noticeable area. A foot stool can usually be placed upside down on top of a sofa, anything to minimise items being placed back onto damp carpet. Really heavy items with small contact areas can also indent the carpet backing and underlay, that's why it is vital that furniture must be returned to their original position, on existing indents.

I would have thought that the indentation would simply brush back up. After all they have only been there a few hours and so aren't crushed to death similar to the feet of a suit that is permanently in one place..

Exactly what I thought Simon.
I placed the foot stool in the same place it was, no indentations previously as its always moved around. Normally it wouldn't be an issue but this PA is on it as to not upset he client.

wool being a natural fibre will bounce back naturally all carpets will have indentations as the
weight of an object is on a pressure point of the carpet the only way to keep these crush marks
at bay is to keep moving items I find carpet sliders a good investment

I can still remember phoning Derek Bolton for advice when this happened to me.
He told me that especially wool fibres have no "memory" when wet.
Unfortunately it will require another visit.
Therefore all you need to do is to slightly wet the new indentions and then "tease"/extract out the dents. Then the carpet will dry of its own accord with no dents showing.
As you are only doing very small areas the disruption to the rest of the room will be minimal.
