What temperatures to you guys generally clean carpets at? I'm mainly using ultimate master from alltec and the instructions say to work between 40 & 50 and do not exceed 65.

I think the best temp is a tad below boiling point, but most people clean with whatever they have available.
Them that have no heat will say they clean just as well with cold water (which is awfully convenient considering that's all they have :D ) which is true unless you have the means to create boiling water you might as well use cold. the difference between warm water & cold is insignificant .
Just to be clear 'hot 'means the QC burns your arm when it accidently touches it, anything else is 'warm'

At the end of a job last week I burned myself on the solution hose - is that too hot?

i use water thats as hot as i can get it from a tap................. much prefer it to cold water, though i have used cold in a few rentals......
always think hot water is better, how "hot" it is at the point it comes out of the wand i dont know, but its usually okay......
id love a magma heater.......... magma? magna.? whatever!!!!

I definitely seem to get better results the higher I go but don't want to over do it, sticking to the ultimater master guidelines at the moment.

I use U/M as my main cleaner and pre-spray , i use customers hot water and it works great, i also set my heater to 65c then i pre-spray room/s with U/M then clean...
I do use the in-line steam heaters with U/M and its been brill on mingers..

if you are using ultimate master stick to what the the product says no hotter than 65 c
try using there pre-sprays first all of there range are brilliant also there company are first class

if you used hotter water than 65 c what could go wrong ,would there be a problem

Most pumps are rated at 60 degrees so using tank water hotter than this can damage the pump head.
Some chemicals start to break down at really high temperatures so may not give you the performance. Best just stick to the instructions.

A washing machine has about 4 temp settings And about 6 different cycles for different fabrics , even has a cold cycle . And a soak (dwell)
So the answer is depends on soiling , stains and fabric and powder used mainly Persil bio for me

Think I will set the thermostat to 65 then and work from that as I seem to be getting better results nearer that temperature. Yes I am using alltecs citrus pre spray at the moment. I only have Alltec products at the moment and a solutions sample pack.

think of it like washing up would you use cold water? hot water excites the cleaning solution on contact to
the fibres if you then agitate and leave the right dwell time this is doing all the muscle work then extract which ever temperature is safe to use on fibres some fibres are heat sensitive happy safe cleaning

I think the 65 degrees comes from (1) using enzymes which would be "killed" above that and (2) back in the day carpets with protection would lose it above that temp. Having said that if your stat is set at 65 c the temp at the wand will be nowhere near.

The franchise I had in the 90's used to quote the Arrenhuis Principle applied to carpet cleaning, seems they were wrong about that too. ;D ;)
