That's an old scam but they can seem very convincing indeed.
I have known people fall for it so I'm guessing they just carry on trying to scam cleaners.
They also have various other versions of the same type of scam too as all they are after is your credit card details etc

Me too.

He started with "I'm from the police, don't worry you haven't done anything wrong ... " after his spiel I told him I was surprised he wasn't pulling the fire brigade ambulance or dying kiddiewink scam. He got angry and said he'd "'come down at 6.30 this evening and "discuss it'" because he knew where I lived.

I said "it's a long way from Liverpool to Bristol pal but I look forward to it - do you want to meet my dobermann or my brother who's a real copper?" and hung up and reported the call to the police with the exact time it was received.

last year a woman  called me trying to sell me some advertising for a school magasine  for between £50 and £100  depending on the size of the ad.
I  really thought it was a genuine call .
I asked her to e mail me details about that  school magazine
I never heard from her again
Could this have been a scam? ( the only way she could have got my details is through my business cards)

Can't say too much, but these scammers have made a schoolboy error this time, and won't be in business much longer  8)

Agree to put an ad in his fake magazine, right up to the point of payment.

Once you tell him that you have checked with the crimestoppers department of your local police and they have never heard of him or his bullcrap publication he will back off. He does get jolly annoyed though.
