Title: Wet vac repair?
Post by: Rob@Blast off on July 27, 2015, 10:19:10 am
My wet vac has lost what little power it did have and I think dirt has got past the filter and into the motor, would striping in down and trying to clean the motor out help?

I know I really need to upgrade but all my money is going towards the new house at the moment.

To be fair the price of your house would probably go up... Unless you use the vaccuum to pan for gold it's value probably won't :D

loss of suction usualy means the filters/air intakes are clogged so look at that first.
The motors will either work or pack in so best start saving for a new one methinks

Be warned multi head motor vacs are a pig to strip down and put back together properly so good luck with that one  ;D
Some motors you can replace the brushes but alot being sold are china crap which are sealed so you  can't replace them even if you wanted too.

Can't go far wrong with Soteco, the ISSA are about the best you can buy but I still love the Junior 423 - very popular with flood hit nations.

You spent two solid days using one so you know how good they are!  Give me a bell tomorrow and I will sort you out a good price!  The only problem is I am not sure you want a 90 litre one

But they are not cheap because if you spend double and buy a polypropylene  casing they are virtually bombproof  and they don't get dented.  I have a couple that are over 8 years old and they have sucked  millions of litres of slurry and crap and are still going strong.  We put these vacuums through their paces on stuff most of you guys will only occasionally  or never encounter

I'm still using steel drums from omni 4200 watt wet vacs with 100mm inlet opening that I've had for years. All I do now is buy the chepo vacs and swap the motor heads over onto the old drums when the motors start to pack up.

Why bother?  We can supply you with the Ametek motors!  That said I cannot comprehend why the motors are packing up!  We have sold 1000's of these triple motor vacs and I bet we have never had to change more than a handful of motors

That's perhaps because they don't mess about swapping motors when the machine is worn out they just buy a new one like I do.

I was supposed to be doing a bit today but me bloody knee joints are playing up again.
I've  been told I need a half joint knee replacement on both knees so that is going to be fun when  going through an airport metal detector methinks ;D
