Title: Trafic/Vivaro/primestar worn gear linkage !
Post by: wpclean on June 25, 2015, 04:12:22 am
My van gear linkage has gone again, I had a new cable kit fitted last year cost over £200, but I just saw this, and thought I would share for owners of the above models.

Van broke down right outside my house as I was preparing to reverse into my drive !    After looking at the video, I have put the cable back on the linkage, and managed to get the van back on the drive.
Ordered the clip device, and should arrive tomorrow so hopefully will be back on the road then.
Thank goodness for google   ;D

Excellent bit of kit

I fitted one about a year ago and it hasn't come off yet!

Wish I had seen it last year, would have saved me loads !    Anyway saved me a boatload now, was going to organise breakdown company to take it to garage, and was looking forward to a big bill  8)

I was quoted over £300 for a new cable and linkage by a local garage. Did a quick search and found that little gizmo.. literally takes a minute to fit.

The company that you have linked are the inventors of it (I think)

It's a myth that VW'S are quality. My sons' didn't get past 70k - £9000 to put it right. Utter garbage.

Yes got one of these when I suddenly ran out of gears

I agree vivaro is very poor van, so many issues...

I do love my transit ! - been a real eye opener for quality, comfort, and driving

VW Transporters are the best vans on the market by far,  the only other van that comes close to a Transporter is a Toyota Hiace

VW is overpriced because it is German, but German motors are always one step ahead

Why are they the best?  Matter of opinion surely?

German motors used to be the shizz

nowadays, most of the parts are taken from other motors (mostly the pi55in' french or fiat) and so aren't as good
even the new hiace's aren't as good as the older marks imo

Had this issue with my 04 Trafic. Zip ties have been the repair method so far. They generally last 6 to 12 months before snapping.
Could this device be fitted to the gear stick end of the cable too?

Don't think so, as if it was a possibilty I am sure they would advertise it !
