hve been using hypo on couple of jobs just to get a bit of experience using it
if you guys think you are going to need it as part of the job how much do you charge for this service obv depending on size of area but and number of times to be used and dilution rates or do you just factor it in to your end price
-
I just assume I will be using it, the cost is relatively small. If I had to treat a full £350 priced driveway then I would expect to use approx 15lt at a cost of £10, I could add it into the price but my prices are on the high side so its really already built in.
-
how do u apply it mike ive been using watering can and quite neat especially on sisters indian sandstone x 3 turned out quite expensive
but it needed three coats of it
-
I used a water can upto last week and mixed it about 5-1. been using this set up which flows at 8-1 but I have a bucket of 2-1 which is needed for really bad bits. This has a sprinkle gun on the end.

Used 20lts on this double driveway, the front step on the left and a rear indian stone patio

The front step....

That is a nifty setup you have there Mike, does the tap pressure have to be high ?
-
No, it's actually fitted with a pressure restrictor to stop the pressure being too high.
-
Where can I find one of these cunning contraptions please ?
-
That's an interesting gadget, does it work well?
-
It's a dosatron, the best and most reliable chemical injection system available ;)
Only problem is they cost a fortune :-\

:o I'll see how I get on with the x-jet first :)

:o I'll see how I get on with the x-jet first :)
How much are they ?
-
Did you leave all that sand on the driveway?
-
I thought that Chris. Get an xjet, Chris sells them for too much but still worth every penny 😃
-
:o I'll see how I get on with the x-jet first :)

Too much ;D
A guy on facebook is selling them for £179 but you can import one yourself a bit cheaper or flutter you eyes at Chris and see if you can get a discount :)
-
Chris can I have a discount please ? ;D
-
Did you leave all that sand on the driveway?
That was before I washed the drive down, normally I give a second application of weak hypo once I've re-sanded
An x jet would be a good addition but it won't do the job of a dosatron as the dosatron works at low pressure and multiple dilution rates ( down to 1%)
-
I hate it when people give me more than one choice, my simple brain can't cope !
-
You wash it, sand it and then wash it down again?
-
I started thinking that I was using too much hypo down the joints so started applying it after I had Re-sanded, I also think the hypo does have a residual weed killing effect so soaking the the sand in hypo fits in with this idea.
The picture of the drive above was misted with hypo ( not washed) the next day as I went back to clean the patio.
To be honest I not sure this is the best way to operate but i'm experimenting with different methods

and also using 15% strength hypo will make poo of it in no time at all.

Tight Ar*e G*ts!!! Looks cheap to me a set of Metal Bond Floor Diamonds cost more than that and you can need up to 3 sets ;D ;D ;D ;D

on dosatrons website they actually say they and be used for sanitation within agraculture using bleaches and strong acids, there are over 50 in the range so I guess you just need to buy the right one.
Although I would never suggest paying full price, I bought 3 USAF decontamination water boilers ( like very high spec hotboxes) they came fitted with dosatrons, they were used for NBC porposes to power showers....... so I bet they are used to having 45% hypo ( as used in decontamination) put through them.
-
Is there a way to use the pressure washer to apply Hypo ? I remember Lee Kenny mentioned something he had set up !
-
yeah you can either downstream or use some thing like an x jet
-
AC Lockyer eat yer hart out ....no more hugh mixing tanks required methinks ;D
I stumbled on this that might intrest some for ideas how to use one.

Looks an easier way than me mop & bucket or messing about with a pressure washer with an x-jet or downstreaming to me ;D

I did wonder why that ibc tank was there so now I know ;D

Why Chris?
The mans dangerous!

In the video he has sprayed the (cloth) canopy ,the (aluminium?) windows, the grass, the satellite dish ,…it's drifting everywhere. No mask, no goggles….I could go on.
-
So you are not a great fan of hypo then Chris?
The ratio the chap uses going by his facebook page is quite weak compared to some. Still I suppose ppe and wetting/rinsing down overspray/runoff areas is still a must when using hypo whatever strenghth you use.

I like bleach…but you have to be careful how /when you use oxidising chemicals.

Thanks but it don't tell me jack an either links about using it for hypo or variable mix ratio's

I have a large patio which i pressure wash but never comes up clean clean we have a lot of crap from trees in the garden. If i get 15% hypo mix it 5 parts water 1 part hypo watercan it on leave it a for ? then hose pipe it off it should come up clean, Have i got this right.
-
Depends what type of surface it is but if it's concreate slabs I tend to use 1:1 mix roughly 7% in a window cleaners bucket.
Wet all the area down first including boarders, plants and grass where the runoff might go with a garden hose first.
I find the simplest way is to use a deck brush or cheapo car/truck brush and slap it on and brush it in.
Let dwell for about half an hour making sure it remains wet and don't dry out.
Scrub stubbon areas with a deck brush and re-apply if needed.
Then just rinse off with a garden hose.
Hypo at that streagth is nasty stuff to handle and use so wear ppe eye protection, gloves, wellies and old cloths.
Keep pets and children out of the area whilst still wet and don't let anybody walk through it either as could be tracked back into the home. Don't use it if there is a pond nearby either as the runoff will kill anything living in the pond.
If a pet should walk through it the get the owner to dunk it in water so it don't damage it's paws etc.
Likewise footware should be removed and washed when going into the house if someone in the household decides to walk through it after you told them not to.
No matter how many times I tell people I end up running after pets and telling off the owners for walking through it too. ;D
It's harmless when the surface is dry thank god. ::)roll
Mixing trade tip: add the water first before you add the hypo as it can splash and make sure you wear safety glasses as you don't want that stuff going in your eyes. Also wear chem resistant glove to protect your hands too.
I don't like to spray it on as being a spray can drift anywhere even in the lightest of winds.
-
I was going to ask about the pets. Think you have coverd the whole operation.
Thank You Smurf

No probs ;)

Yes indeed Smurf has covered it well fair bowls to him as sodium hypochlorite no matter what strength needs to be used with extreme caution as it is really nasty stuff to be working with.
-
smurf , you forgot to mention the led flashing ;D,
-
Don't get many lead flasing patio's around my way but a good point though if you get it on soft metals like ali frames or copper gas pipes for instance make sure you rinse it down well as hypo will eat away at soft metals if not rinsed down well.
