Thinking of getting a portable back up to my TM. The portable machines available these days are more powerful than when I last used them and then one cable did all.
Owners of machines like the Airflex Storm or Alltec Evolution - as I understand it you need two cables as the norm, and if using an inline heater you need three. Is this how you run them, with possibly 3 cables on the go, and do you find this a problem?

I'm not entirely sure but I thought that Alltec had a system where you plugged in and with a switch you moved from heater to using the pump...but I may be wrong.

One at a time....fill up plug heater in......start extracting unplug heater plug in power lead.
-
no need 3rd lead for heater, simply plug it inside the house close to the wand.
-
If using a twin vac machine you should only need two cords one for the heater and one for two vacs and pump, if you want three vacs you will need three cords.

One of my last portables had built in heaters with a switch on the machine, so you would heat the water up first, but could also leave it heating as you extracted. With the inline heaters it obviously heats the water as you extract but is not in the tank, is separate so has its own cable.
Alltec say that the Evolution should run on 1 cable for the twin vacs and pump, with the heater having its own cable, so 2 cable max. They also say with the Advance and three vacs and pump needs 2 cables, so with the heater too, it is 3 max.
Cleansmart say that the Airflex Storm requires 2 cables for the twin vac and pump, and a seperate one for the magna heater. so again three.
So all in all, discarding the heater with all machines, as it has its own independent cable,
The Alltec Evolution needs just 1 cable to run both vacs and pump.
The Alltec Advance needs 2 cables to run the 3 vacs and pump.
The Airflex Storm required 2 cables to run the twin vacs and pump.
I just don't like the idea of having cables all over the place, it also makes it look like you are using an awful lot of electicity.
I know the Airflex Storm has more powerful vacs than the the Alltec Evolution, but requires 2 cables as standard, however in reality using the inline heater will be necessary because you don't want to be just using it as it comes out of the tap, do you.
Is this how you guys that have these machines or similar run them, with the inline heater working all the time as you extract?
-
Yes Shaun you are correct as I remember it on my Pro Plus. I think with the heater switched on the machine wouldn't work.

im using my storm with two cables, hot water in tank, jobs a good un, works well, no hassle.......

Thanks for replies, decision time soon.

Im not sure of some of the things u say there .
I thought the evolution was using 7amp vacs so doubtful they are running on one cord , I thought the evolution had two heaters ... 3kw immersion for use with vacs off and 2kw inline inbuilt for use with vacs on .
The non heated twinvac machines like the storm ... are two cords but u could run them from a one thick extension lead most of the time if you wanted .
Enforcer ? one cord vacs/pump .... second cord two built in heaters -inline/immersion

Hi Dave,
The Evolution does use 2 cables. However if you are using the Advance, without a heater, you only need 1 cable.

Thanks Karra,
Weighing up options, want something with bags of power but nice and simple, awaiting quote from Chris.

why 1 more cable or less is such an issue?
simply, more leads more power
I know karcher puzzi usses only one :)
-
Thanks for the heads up, a Puzzi it is.
-
its about time you retired ..never mind buying a new porty...you should be up a mountain somewhere
-
Correct on both counts, but I cant be enjoying myself all the time, I'd get bored.

I use the alltec express as a back up to my TM, yes it has quite a small capacity, but the amount of times I use it I wouldn't want anything bigger, the heat from it is unbelievable, a fantastic machine, if I was going to get a portable I would look no further than alltec, the machines are fantastic
-
So is their service, thanks Billy.
-
There are a few of us that have the Alltec express it's a great machine to have as back up or hard to reach places or just that little job, it's easy to lift and easy to maintain it's not a TM but it serves it's purpose very well and doesn't break the bank.

I always run 3 cables out from my Storm (inc. in-line heater).
I often need to use 25' extensions to reach suitable power outlets.
It's not a problem for me.
