Title: Formula 90 or Ultimate Master
Post by: Darran Pryce on June 21, 2015, 01:32:02 pm
Guys, got this job in a few weeks... Never come across something as bad as this (it was used as a cannabis farm).  Which do you think will work it's wonders,  Formula 90 or Ultimate Master?  What would be your preference choice?  Told the landlord not to expect miracles!

Thanks

It needs to be chucked! its a heath risk. What does the backing look like?

If I really had to. I would clean it with an enzyme and would have thought F90 has more kick as it is higher ph. But it really needs to go....

I said the exact same thing to the landlord, but he said he would rather give it a go.  It's student property so does not want to spend ££££ on new carpets as they will get wrecked.  Backing not great.

I wouldn't want to be one of his tenants...
Then I suppose I wouldn't want his tenants either.

The only thing I have ever found remotely effective on mold is Derek Bolton's soap steam and sodium percarb method but if you did that much mold with it he could buy a number of new carpets for the cost.

Good luck with that one Darren.

It looks more like mould to me which is irreversible
formula 90 powder is a highly buffered cleaning detetgent, I use it all yhe time, Ultimate master has its uses but was originally designed for wool carpets, it used to have the woolsafe logo on the tub, but as they tweeked the chemical over the years they had to loose the logo or pay an absorbamant amount to have it re tested
Its also not a buffered chemical so it soon loses its ph when sprayed onto the carpet

Kinda hard to tell but i think it might be an easy clean on that carpet if you give it hell with chemicals and heat , the brown marks might be left but may respond to treatment .

John, heat was my first thought to.

I would put down a heavy pre spray of petrol and then pre test how it responded to a lit match.

If it all goes up in smoke then you have 'improved it' and will be more suitable for Tennants then it currently is lol

I love a challenge... but when I saw this,  my eye's watered.   Personally I would have replaced them, and that was my advice, but hey, lets see what happens when I go back on the 6th July.

Looks like synthetic so should be easier to clean and get a good outcome. If its wool/wool mix, good luck getting an improvement.

Why are you asking if UM or F90 will do the job? They are rinse agents. You'll need a high PH pre-spray,  that's what will do the bulk of the work. Something like powerburst or enzall or craftex's champion, long dwell, THEN rinse with F90 or UM.

I'd also spray down some Cleansan from prochem to kill any germs and bacteria. Bet the place stinks.

Those brown marks "should" come out with a spraying of sod met mixed hot or chemspecs browning treatment. Might be worth doing them first.

Personally I'd buy new carpet and underlay.

Looks like mould due to spillages and clothes left lying on the floor. Also very bad draft marking around the edges.
Enzall with Energiser sprayed down hot and rinsed out with Craftex Microkill or Chemspec 429.
As its a student accommodation which is now going to lie empty for some time you don't want to be leaving this carpet
wet and shutting the door without leaving something in the carpet to deal with the mould as its going to end up 10 times worse.

Whether you're hungry for work or wanting a challenge, this one isn't the one to prove anything on. There is so much going on here I am surprised the landlord is even thinking of entertaining a salvage clean.

If it is the end result of a cannabis farm I'm surprised the police didn't remove the carpet as well?

You're better than this Darran let it go.

Landlord sounds as scummy as the Tennant...
