Hi
Without starting world war III ;D could anyone recommend a vacuum cleaner. I've got about £200 to spend.
Do I get one decent one or two okay ones? It'll just be me cleaning at the start, but hope to employ staff for the office cleaning in time. I've already got one I can use for office cleaning at the moment. Do you leave your vacuums on site for office cleans?
I need a sturdy vacuum for domestic jobs as I'll be chucking it in and out of the car everyday.
Would you recommend upright or cylinder?
Cheers

The Sebo Dart is popular..........but you have to be clear about the actual work the machine will have to handle.
Many like the little Henry........possibly because it's cheap to buy and been around for ages.
There are many others......

Henrys take alot of beating. There reasonably powerful and robust.
You'd probably get 2 for £200 and some change.

Henrys are well worth the money, keep changing the bags. on offer at moment, I can get them for 69 + vat

Hi,
I have up until now been using a James which is a smaller version of the Henry. The only problem that I have found is that they are not very good with animal hair.
I have just brought a Sebo Dart what a hoover cost £200ish but what an investment. If I could afford more I would ditch the James hoovers and more of these.

Phil,
Where do you get them at that price if you don't mind me asking?

Bookers have them on offer at the moment; I don’t need one at the moment but bought 2 the other day. I get all my Henry parts from a company called AXO in Abingdon who do some great prices on everything to do with a Henry, I fit motors to Henrys when they pack up £30 for a motor which is a good price, there phone number is01235 530734 ask for a cater log. Just bought 10 packs of genuine Numatic bags for £4.19each and there will send you another 4 free! Works out at £2.99 for a pack of 10. Kind regards Phil

Thanks Phil

The main attraction of the Henry is the low price, but, you need to keep buying bags.there are excellent water filtration machines ......which give a genuine 100% suction all of the time, unlike a certain, well advertised make.
You can also use a turbo are more powerful power wand with these machines, which makes a huge difference on large areas.

Rob,
How much do the water filtration machines cost?

Hi,
Ive recently tried Bulldog cleaners by morphy richards, they come with 3 yrs free warranty have adjustable sucking power, are very light and cost around £110 each.
Ive been really impressed up to now and will probably carry on using the Bulldog from now on. :)

The 3 year warranty, is that parts and labour?
-
Thanks everyone.
Sarah, how big is the bulldog? I've managed to find one for £74.99. Its the only one that came up from a Google search. Do they have filters coz I hate those things. We've been doing a lot of building work recently and the things just overheat and cut out when the filter gets blocked after about 5 minutes. >:(
Still tempted to go for an upright though. It's what I've always used and its easier on the back too. I've looked at the Sebo before. Does anyone know of anywhere in South Wales that supplies them so I can try before I buy?
Thanks
Ali

The sebo in my opinion is the number 1 vac, I use one for all my carpet cleaning jobs and on tough carpets pet hair etc, but its to bulky for general use, I don,t think it will take the abuse that a Henry can.
-
Hi all,
Yes it is parts and labour and its similar size to the Henry, i paid £75 for mine recently on offer through Ace cards & Gifts.
It came with 10 free bags a pack of vac air fresheners and a contact number to order new bags and fresheners when required.
It comes with two heads one of which is motorised and the vacuum pipe/nozzle is quite long so its easy on the back.

Try a nilco ;D ;D
A very good machine, you also get the tools included, I never have with the sebo bs36, the nilcos brush stops when in the upright position, the sebos doesnt, the cord is longer ;D ;D
I love them ;D

Are they heavy BSF? Coz I don't want to end up looking like Popeye ;D
And are they tough enough to stand general day to day abuse?
Thanks
Ali

Seriously, they are very good, alot lighter than the Sebo bs36 and Karcher equivalent, they are that good I’ve put my name on em ;D
try one I promise you, you wont be disappointed.
-
;D I like the new identity

Thanx ;D

Curious as I was just about to buy an upright for the first time and was looking at the Sebo and the Lindhaus. The whole point was to get the extra width either 46cm or the 50cm for a large area of office carpet, otherwise we use Henry's everywhere.
I shall go look and see if the nilco have a wide head version.

I too am looking to buy a hoover but im only doing domestic cleans at the moment....the Henry seems to be a good little buy so far but what model number?
I was hoping i could get a bagless vacuum though....what is the general opinion on these and domestic cleans?
Thanks
-
I might be wrong but I think the bagless generally come with a filter, which are a pain in the neck. Everyone I have had has overheated when the filter gets blocked and thats only after about two uses (quite dusty jobs though). You have to wait about 30 mins to use it again. They're really messy and dusty to clean out and when its someone elses dust and dead skin cells you're breathing in, its not very pleasant :-X
These have only been domestic cleaners, not commercial so don't know if there's a difference.
-
The Henry's have their limitations, but they are very hard to beat on commercial sites. They are cheap as chips, will take endless abuse, easy to repair by anyone and everyone sells the bags and parts.
We have lots of them working very hard for hours every day, some are nearly 2 years old now and still haven’t pegged out or even broke once and I know they are capable of working much much longer.
They are as boring as hell (no bells or whistles) but they have to be the most reliable piece of kit you can own.
-
I agree with DP on this one, we have seven/eight henry's (cannot quite remember now) and find them to be the best by far when working out price/economy/durability etc. So far I have not had one breakdown or need any kind of repair, and we bought them all well over a year ago. ;)
Saying that, I do not use them on builders cleans as I do find that the bags fills quite quickly, for this I use an industrial sized Alto which I have to say is superb.

For speed in offices, your a lot better off with a commercial upright vac, henrys are good, cheap and very reliable, but its hard work for the staff using them.

I see your a Joy Division fan, great band in the old days before the lead singer hung him self, regards Phil

Yes Phil, they were a great band, Ian Curtis was a great song writer it was a sad loss to the music industry when he committed suicide, he was from Macc just up the road from where I live.

As a complete upright virgin ::) I mean in the world of commercial vacuum cleaners. What are these like with general office debris like paper clips, staples, drawing pins, pen tops etc, does it cause any problems?
A lot of cleaning companies do prefer upright's, so there must be a reason, considering the massive cost difference.
Henry's lend themselves in large offices to spot vacuuming only, mainly because of the size of their heads being about 280mm. Try vacuuming a large area or even an entire average office with one and I would agree it would be very time consuming and fatiguing.
Although the Henry seems to service thousands of contracts very well, I do believe that this practice of spot vacuuming has to cause an increase in the amount of dust removal elsewhere simply by the fact that less is being removed from the floor.
I am going to buy one anyway, so I can see how much difference it makes.
-
Commercial upright vac’s are a must on any large contract, a lot of cleaning company’s opt for the henry only because of the cost.
As far as staples, paper clips etc go, they aren’t a problem, at the end of the day if one gets blocked its an easy enough job to sort it, as it is with a henry/tub vac.
I do prefer the nilco’s over the sebo/karcher’s because the brush stops in the upright position, Ive seen cleaners leave a sebo in the upright position (brush still turning) for up to 5 minutes while they do something else, this wears out the brush head and can leave a fair old mark on the floor covering.
When the nilco’s in the upright position the brush stops and it has a longer power cord which is a major plus, as well as on board tools included in the price ;D
-
henry is good, light and durable. As for using bags, I've worked for industrial cleaners on new builds and now use one domestically, We've never used bags, just empty the tub regularly and wash filter occasionally, depending how often and what you use it for.
-
cheapskate, you dont even use a bag ;D Buy a Nilco, I love them :o
-
If you want your Henry to last I suggest you use a bag all the time, I will discipline any of my girls who don't use a bag, after a period of time fine grit will slowly but surly weaken the motors power and when that happens the motor is knackered, it will need replacing or new Henry. I will only use Neumatic bags as well. Kind regards Phil
-
Yes Nicola,
always use a bag, its much safer ;D
