Just curious; do you ever come across a carpet and think to yourself, " Oh my God, no chance!" and admit defeat; or even more interesting, you start a job and end up really disappointed when no matter what you do, for some reason, the carpet just won't come up as nicely as you expected?????
-
Or you get even better results than you thought!

If your doing FB sales pages. Then yes .
Carpets that don't come up well are usually off white wool Berbers ,
But I always inform them what to expect before starting

What's FB got to do with anything????

I think he's saying that FB jobs tend be crappy jobs which tbh honest is what I have found.

There will always be some carpets that just won't improve no matter what you do, and there will always be some carpets you should walk away from.

I don't do FB but I would imagine that lots of FB work will be cheap end PP that clean up fine even when trashed

Got one tomo, 8 years old tenanted house, white wool thick pile, stains all over and I have explained the limitation but they expect the world I think.

I had one like that on Thursday; thankfully the lady didn't expect anything.
She's had a guy call around just before Christmas ....... with a Rug Dr ....... and when she told him she could see no difference he told her she wouldn't whilst the carpet was wet but when it was dry it would look great!!!
Imagine her surprise when it looked crap dry too ::)roll
I told her I'd do my best and see how it came up and to be honest I was pretty impressed afterwards ........ not perfect as the odd mark wouldn't budge but she was over the moon.
I have to be honest and say that we pick up a lot of work through being recommended on FB and most of it is great ...... simple jobs like lounge carpets that take an hour or so.
Fits in lovely with all the rest of our work.

The problem with many FB jobs is that the customer expects miracles but most are not prepared to pay the required prices for a professional clean.
I booked a FB job a few months ago. I was ensured the room would be clear of all small items. I arrived and walked into the lounge. To my horror there where 3 children without nappies on walking around, used nappies spread everywhere and a toddler in a high chair throwing milk covered cornflakes all over the carpet.
The tenant offered to move all the items in the room (included piles of rubbish behind the sofa) whilst I waited.
I politely declined and left.
Shock on faces = priceless.
Some of the conditions that people can live in sometimes is shocking.
I do use FB boosted posts as advertising but I now use more selected ages and areas to target.

Hi Guys
Always a difficult one when you are building a business as bills need paying.
I never used to turn a job down but have become more discerning over the years and quite simply much better at filtering potential problems on the phone.
Having higher prices is usually a good way of getting rid of unwanted attention!
It's all part of the learning process and does allow you to hone your skills on various stains.
Cheers

Hi Simon, How are you finding the boosted posts? Do you get a good ROI?
Many thanks

Hi Tony,
I am currently experimenting with areas and age groups etc "audiences".
On average for every £1.00 spent gains £10.00 in actual income.
Each "audience" appears to have a slightly different return.
If I target younger age groups I get more clicks (costing me more) and the total job value appears to be smaller (mostly end of tenancy where as 1 carpet has been trashed).
If target older age groups I get less clicks (costs me less) and the job value appears to be larger .
Depending on how busy I am I can select the best audience to target.
Its very much a trial and error process (either way I am not losing money).
I havent been using FB boosts long enough yet to compare ROI against Adwords.
Thanks.
Simon
