Title: easy cheap DIY option for fixing hose reel in the van
Post by: dazmond on June 06, 2015, 04:50:18 pm
put a piece of chipboard down at the back of your tank(if you have room)and staple a few cheap rubber mats to it so you have a nice rubber floor base going all along the rest of your van floor.

then get 3 pieces of wood(about 2in  thick)and box the reel in screwing them through the rubber and wood base.

next lift the hose reel onto the front section of wood and slide 4 thick cable ties under the wood and around the front tubes of the reel and fasten nice and tight.cut the overhanging surplus tie and the jobs a good un! :)

sorry guys i cant  upload a pic as pics too large it wont let me! ::)roll

Sounds much cheaper than having to drill through the van chassis in order to secure the hose reel.

I'm assuming from this that you are keeping the hose reel in the van permanently - does this work better than removing the hose reel from the van for cleaning? Also I'm guessing that you keep the van door open whilst cleaning - does this not pose a security risk (ie: someone pinching your equipment whilst your working round the back of a house & out of sight?).

I'm still using 25L barrels & a Pure Freedom trolley but am considering upgrading to a van mount at some point and am working out how best to do things.

Hose reel can stay in van and close back doors, just make sure hose in at the bottom of the door an not near the lock

Having a fixed hose reel in the van is much easier than lugging it in and out of the van all the time mate.

I can lock the van if I pull enough microbore off the reel for the job in hand.i very rarely lock the back doors when working though (I do lock the front and side doors though.I have a bulkhead)

If I really need to take the hose reel out which is very rare I simply cut the cable ties and remove and replace with new ones when putting it back in.takes 2 mins.

The 2 black plastic clamps I got with a shelving unit for fixing to the wall in my storage space but not needed so I put them over the reel but you ll be fine with strong thick cable ties. :)

It's not pretty but it does the job and keeps the reel secure! ;D

Thanks for the updates. It's interesting to see how others have got their vans setup. I'm thinking of going for a 350L tank - DIY setup - in my Vauxhall Combo, (old model), and somehow using the trolley as the van mount (yet making it fully detachable at the same time for jobs where access is awkward).

Hi daz, it's much easier to screw some pipe clips on to a piece of ply/chip.
Reel is secured in van but can be removed instantly by lifting out. No cable ties to cut ;)

Is that an ex-BT Combo you have there? The bulkhead looks identical to my Combo - which is ex-BT.

Also ....

What size tank do you have fitted?
Where did you get those racks for the spray bottles?
