2 months in to my extreme pole and love it. However...... I've noticed that I need to replace the stop tape on a lot of the sections.
My question is this.......
Does the stop tape at the end of each section do anything other than prevent over extending the sections?
The reason I ask is that every week I clean my pole and dry ptfe spray it. This means that if during my working day I ever feel any grit in the pole then I can flush it out, and the ptfe seems to make it not grip the pole, so out comes the grit. Job done.
However.......now that the tape is wearing it's leaving the adhesive open to the elements. This now means that any grit or dust gets stuck to the adhesive and will not shift with out disassembling the pole and cleaning and replacing the stop tape.
My thoughts are now........ Do away with the stop tape, as with an extreme pole the metal clamping points make it impossible to over extend anyway. Or does the stop tape prevent grit getting up inside the sections somehow?
Just curious as lots of other manufacturers don't have the positive stop tape, and just use coloured sections.
Has anyone done away with the stop tape altogether? As at the minute it's actually causing wear to my pole as I can't replace the stop tape till I get home. Previously if I flushed the pole, out comes the grit and pole glides super smooth.
Thanks,
Jonny.

I used to take mine off because I wanted to strip the pole quickly when it jammed with grit.
My advice now is leave it on because poles wear out from the inside as well as the outside - tape helps to slow this down. I try and change the tape weekly now on all sections .................... when I remember!

Man of experience.
Looks like I've done well for it to last two months. Haha.
What tape do you use out of interest?

I nick my sons electrical insulation tape (he's an electrician) personally I think it's too soft and the grit gets embedded in it. Needs proper teflon tape in my opinion.

Thanks Dave.
Just saw that post by slap bash about shrink wrap. Now that seems interesting.

What a good question and one that is actually very important to pole maintenance.
The Pole User Guide ( http://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/media/wysiwyg/Telescopic_Pole_User_Guide_2015_-_v2.pdf ) that we send out with each pole contains the following instructions:
Servicing Schedule:
1.
In addition to the above schedule we would recommend fully taking
apart the pole every 2-3 months to clean and service. Undoing the clamps bolts until loose will allow the sections to slide apart.
2. Whilst apart, clean and dry all sections and check and replace, if needed, the stop-indicator tape and the wrap of tape at the base of each section.
This is because the wrap of tape at the base of each section does prevent carbon on carbon wear from the inside out as stated by Dave. On a pole such as a thin-wall Xtreme this is vitally important and is one servicing step that is often over-looked by clients.
The best tape is the yellow tape we sell on our website - http://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/all-products/water-fed-poles/pole-spares-sections/pole-clamps/telescopic-joint-indicator-tape-yellow-15m-roll.html
(http://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/all-products/water-fed-poles/pole-spares-sections/pole-clamps/telescopic-joint-indicator-tape-yellow-15m-roll.html)
We have tested out PTFE tape and found it not as reliable as good old PVC tape :)

??? How come the link says 33m roll but the web page says 15m roll?
Free roll for me for spotting that I think.

Looks like I'll be keeping the tape after all. :)
