Title: Are the default cargo hooks in a van good enough to hold down tank?
Post by: Roberto Smith on May 14, 2015, 03:08:50 pm
Got a 350 litre tank (flat) thinking of securing it down with a 5 ton ratchet strap are the lashing points in the van up to the job?

My old van had some custom plating bolted through the floor to hook ratchet straps to, worked great for many years but now i have a new van.

Its a 2010 Berlingo for what its worth.

Thanks.

No I'm 99% sure they won't

Loading points are their to hold a load steady in normal driving conditions NOT CRASH conditions.

They're normally rated to 100kg - your tank will produce 7000kg of force in a 30mph crash,...

Urgh don't like the sound of that. Might have to get a tank frame off grippatank. Thanks for replys.

Thats a stupid thing to suggest, everyone crashes at some point or another.

Just dont put any water in the tank.

Nope you have to safeguard against the tank moving in any direction including upwards more so in a crash with a flat tank . Way to much space in the back of van for a tank full of water to move about .

You can always stick a bit of wood in front of it and a passenger seat.
