we are thinking about buying another van but dont know if to have this one sign written as most cleaning companys dont have theirs done where we live is there any reason for this

Your sign written van, driving round the area constantly, is probably one of the cheapest methods of advertising you can get. Plus potential clients may see it driving around......even if you are going to Tesco's!!

It is the age old question of should I sign write or not? My thoughts are that it depends on who you want to phone you....... People who shop at Tesco's on the whole.... I dont want calling me to clean their carpets. If you do then by all means sign write your van. There are advantages to both so best to weigh them up within your own circumstances and see which list comes out on top, pros or cons. What is best for me which is un-signwritten might not be best for someone else.....Best, Dave.

I think that it is very unlikely that somebody will take any written notice of your contact details from your van, unless your presents in the area is constant, so potential customer would see you as an established business in that area. If you have other means of advertising in the same stile as the signs written on your van (yellow pages / leaflets / ads in local parish magazine and etc), then when people would probably choose you as they would have seen your van in that area and think that you are an established business in that area.

Hey.....i wasn't suggesting that you would get your business from Tesco's!!
I was saying that even while not actually working.....a signwritten van will be seen whilst being driven around....... ;D

Tim, I understand 100% what it is that you are saying and also quite agree. Even still though if I am parked at Tescos or going to it so to speak I am still going to attract the same people as me. I for one wouldnt use me because the services I provide arent appealing to me as a customer. That is why I dont work where I live. Having said that if you want to work near to where it is you live and want to attract the same people then I would imagine sign writing would be a must. Just for me and mine it would be detromental to my business, accordingly I dont sign write, but then I dont advertise either, best, Dave....again, pros and cons and then see what is on top. Maybe ask the fast trackers as they have the entire yellow pages plastered on the sides of their vans. They must be the best source of market research on this subject.......

Who goes to Tesco's? well all sorts, including MD's, PA's , Facilities managers etc., we all have to eat... you may get more calls that are unwanted, but you may just get the call that you've been waiting for.
The only thing I would advise as I found out to my detriment is: dont have your signs painted on, I recently went Limited, all vans needed to be changed....and Re sprayed!!! so go for vinyl stick on's,

I would also agree with tims comments.
I have picked up work from tescos car park (one lady actually got her son to run after the van and get a card!!).
Even picked up a commercial kitchen cleaning job with one of the large chains which has led to a contract with 10 other pubs in my area all while having a chicken sarnie and a mars bar ;D.
As for vinyl lettering, its great until the some pesky kids peel them off "for a laugh" over a bank holiday weekend. I now have a van that resembles something from countdown. Has anybody got a vowel?

Carolann, firstly I like your web site and second, for the record under normal situations I think one should sign write whatever it is that they drive, for mostly the reasons mentioned previously. Just in my case I dont want to attract the people who would call me from the sign writing (if that makes sense, bad English I know)....... I also understand that we all have to eat but my target of clients are those that pay others to do their shopping for them. Hence my comment of not wanting Tesco's customers..... Again though, each to their own but I would like to hear from the fast trackers as to how they get on with the advertising they have on thier vans..... Best, Dave.
