Title: Very Disappointing Dorset Show.
Post by: C-Thru. on May 09, 2015, 04:58:48 pm
Sorry guys but I did think the show today was very disappointing, not many stalls, nothing new.
lots of manufacturers trying to get you to replace all your perfectly working gear with their new products which do exactly the same job but for an extra 5 grand, lol
Lots of people I spoke to said the same, not enough suppliers or manufacturers there, and very poor compared with last year apparently ( i wasn't there last year)
One not so big marquee tunnel tent and three or four stalls outside.
I did manage to get some supplies bit cheaper than online but overall I was very disappointed.
Only good point for me was that it was only 45mins down the road travel, so I do feel very sorry for those who travelled a long way.
Well done to the organisers, it was great to have something like this in the South west but it needs to be a lot bigger with more on offer for me to attend again.

I think these things are what you make them. I travelled down with two local windies, met and chatted to other windies and had a good look around. I had a really good day out.

Yep , I hear their was plenty on show for persons to look around .
Raffle prizes were good I heard .

Plus - monies was raised for "Charities" , so it is definitely worthwhile .

Credit to the organisers and helpers

I have never been but have heard good reports. I think it's what you make of it. It's fairly obvious that manufacturers would be there to sell, that's what they have booked a stall for. The guys that I know that were going were basically going for a day out, meet other window cleaners and share some tips, along with just going down to have a good time.

I was there with my son, he was bored to start with but after we started chatting with other windies he enjoyed it.
I got some good freebies. The only disapointing thing for me was that moerman were showing there products and to buy you had to walk over to cleaningspot. However cleaningspot was there to just advertise not to sell so I was hoping to buy without the postage cost but not so.
The new wagtail was out which was good to see. Also the unger dogeared channel was out which I bought 3 of and yet they are not released till july.
All good imo

Please don't get me wrong guys, I did enjoy the experience and met some nice people. But overall I thought it would be a lot bigger with more there than actually was.

My 6 year old son and I had a great show, many thanks to all who made it happen, especially Mark.
Everyone was so friendly to both of us, The sun shone and allowed us to enjoy a picnic after the show, followed by a swim in the parks fantastic pools. We had a great day.
Neither of us was fast enough on the speed trial to beat ' Turbo Terry' ! but it was good to meet him and the other representatives on the stands, especially the guy on the Wagtail stand who was brilliant.
No, we didn't buy a new RO, but we saw what there was, met some great people and had a super day.
As a window cleaner you are often just working on your own and not having a lot of contact with other windies, the show lets us all meet and greet and boy there  were some super vans there.
We really appreciate everyones hard work, thanks.

c-thru,we had a stand at the show,to prepare for that i personally lost four days work and income,i know mark has lost a lot lot  more time and income in organising the show, considering the profits go to cancer research i do find it very insulting you should feel this way and say the show was disapointing(mark by the way when i saw him v early on the friday had been up all day organising,on the saturday morning mark had had no sleep at all and was looking stressed although looked relaxed later on in the day(this guy had been awake for well over 36 hours just for you and others like you)he pulled off a cracking show, and  there was a real feeling of pulling together between everyone(wagga and tristan, plus darren ansbro helped put our stall up because we were short of time,)we all pulled in together, why?,well we belong to an age where we support each other, we don't go slagging off something  or people because it doesn't live up to your exspectations, all we saw yesterday were positive people, we are booking for next year already, and whilst i am on i thank everyone who came to our stall and their kinds words and encouragement-its very much appreciated,c-thru i you felt disapointed by the show this year, why not organise your own? if you can't then don't bother going to the one next year,me and others don't really need you

Chill out, he's just expressing his opinion, this forum is so annoying, everyone on clean it up is soooo protective over there own opinions! Who cares what he thinks, the show was what it was, some would've thought it was crap, others amazing. That's just life.

i agree with you to a point, but for someone to say it was crap without a consideration that all the profits went to charity,i was in the pub on friday with a few guys who travelled halfway across the world just to show a product and another from mallorca who flew over just to support him(bear in mind they only showed the goods and not had any for sale on the day)for someone to say the show was disapointing kinda bugs me-if c-thru only knew the time and effort that went into the show by many many people he may understand

He's still entitled to his opinion though and is entitled to express it on here.

I was really hoping to go but circumstances messed up my plans.

Got any pictures of the show?

The sad fact is people put a lot of effort into a lot of things, but there will always be critics... I mean take Moerman with the new liquidator, lots of effort, time and money, and a good product has been made, but still there's loads of haters. Doesn't matter what it is, critics will always arise, and, I suppose, there free to do so.

I've just criticised this forum in another post, just to make things more complicated!

So are you saying that you have never criticized something that somebody has put a lot of time effort and money into ?
Plus what a load of rubbish, the fact that they had goods to show is fact that they wanted someone to buy them at a later
date.
So they where only there to advertise their products and make money as where you.

Oh dear .
Imagine if they were no shows or suppliers trying to advertise their products or even invent new working methods and equipment .
Charity benefitted - yes
Manufacturers benefitted - yes
The Wfp user ( customer ) benefitted - yes

They'd always be critics , their is the odd custy of mine that probably doesn't rate my work .

Let's just embrace better equipment and  persons help to improve the way we work .

I am sorry you did not like the show I tried my very best I managed to get over 30 suppliers and make the biggest window cleaning show in the uk what I loved  to see and managed to buy some great new products  which have not even been released yet we had a new unger channel , a new wagtail  a new company which is about to go into pole manufacturing and the clamps look amazing , 3 new poles  and what I think is a amazing electronic tap controller and everyone I spoke to was really nice it is only my second show and there is room for improvement attendance had almost doubled which was great . So thank you very much to everyone who attend  :)

I'm so sorry you all feel so bitter, but hey guys I paid my entrance money and have every right to give my two-penneth worth.
I only said I thought there would be a lot more there...
Where were Window Cleaning Warehouse, where was Gardiner poles just to name two of the biggest names in our industry?
Now before you all jump on me again.... I spoke to lots of guys at the show and made some great new contacts... and found a new local supplier here in Devon, but a lot of those guys I spoke to said the same ''last years was bigger and better'' or ''Not enough here''  or ''suppliers that are here are not selling, only showing and you have to buy online''  and ''Can't believe Gardiners Poles are not here I really wanted to see their poles up close'' were just a few of the comments I heard in various conversations throughout the day.

Now whilst I have already said in the Original Post, well done to the organisers they did do a great job, that goes without saying, I dip my hat to Mark, well done Sir. (Just for the record, having spent 25 years in the leisure industry I have in the past organised big events and I DO know how much effort & time they take,) I Only recently helped to organise & raise £2,350 in one night at our local pub for the Devon Air Ambulance and that took months to organise.

I, on the day anyway was not the only one disappointed, but the only one prepared to put my head above the parapet and say so.
Why not next year, hand out a small questionnaire  and have a prize draw with it to encourage feedback??
Why not have a small stage area with PA system and invite suppliers up to publicly show new products,  maybe a small short seminar from marketing people or some industry experts sharing their experience and idea's?
in other words a focal point of the whole show.

Its just my opinion that's all. But hey that's what I thought forums were all about??? Voicing your opinion whether everyone agrees or not!

Had a great time at the show. For me the highlights were ;

Being told my system is one of the best at the show.

Your van is "Window cleaning porn"

Having crowds of people surrounding my van.

17 friend requests from the show (now 36)

Meeting a few guys including Craig Booth (awesome guy)

Being personally thanked by wagga.

To top it all off being woke up at 6.40pm from a supplier wanting a "talk and meeting" ( I was shattered from the show)

Next year will see me and my friends in a caravan and drinking.

It's true what they say tho. Meeting people in real life is totally different to talking over the Internet. So much can get lost in translation. Managed to put a few issues to bed as well.

Got some fantastic ideas for my van that's not been done before and managed to get ideas on how to improve set up......

Until next time !

Everything can be bigger and better.

The show is like an iphone3gs. Give it a few years and it will be like a iphone 6 plus!

I agree you are entitled  to your opinion but I was wondering if you turned up to the show there, window cleaning warehouse were there and offered up to £200 of there poles  only a small stand only a small 40ft stand lol and as for Gardiners grippa tank were there  selling all there poles again with a small 60ft stall

On a personal level I found the show very  good, There were new poles and Innovation with a range of controllers on show from different people. The show was busy from start to finish with a very positive buzz about the place. Lots of people chatting and getting a chance to put faces to names.

A chance for people to see new products chat and socialize and on top a lot of cash raised for charity.

LOL I know my Battery was pretty worn out by the end of the day.  ;D ;D
It was great to see so many people and chat.  We had five pumps running off two batteries plus a power supply for the AC Hoche touch screens. The monster Pentaflex pump was the amps guzzler. Its capable of pulling 27 amps.
