Title: Commercial work
Post by: Stephen burton on May 02, 2015, 05:05:46 pm
What is the best way to pick up commercial work, I have been doing window cleaning for 10 years and have always stuck to domestic work but would like some shops, office blocks ect never really tried to get any and know that cards and flyers don't work

Nothing particular darran, I have all equipment for traditional or wfp so anything will be a bonus and always nice to have a change now and then, don't get me wrong 10 years of the same customers has been good for me just want something else to go with it, just seems every local businesses have window cleaners and don't seem interested in the little company's like mine

Depends on what you have done to make them see you !

Different commercial works need differing approaches..

High street / small shops - walk in, chat with owner/manager - leave a quality flyer/ brochure.
Care homes, schools, business parks, larger companies - employ a quality telesales person
Councils, multi nationals and the like - you need to find web sites and make contact with the buyer/ facilities manager or equivalent and get registered on an approved  suppliers list then go through tender processes, lots of paperwork and time to fill out forms, in depth questions ref. staff, accounts etc ( this is for contracts over 24k )

In my experience Stephen 25 years in you are much better off with mostly domestic, don't get me wrong some commercial  1st thing is great for that fast buck but you can lose them very quickly !.....easy way is to ring/call in ask who's in charge of the cleaning & then follow up with the info they require, but 1st impressions always last so I always am prepared with what they require....
But I'm really surprised at the low prices of care homes  ::)roll

The world and its wife wants care homes. As they're just like a big domestic. It's not a big jump from a fella doing domestic only.
I don't even bother going to quote them if they ask now.
Last one I did was almost one quarter of what I priced. And they were looking for a better price!

I agree about the care homes,I quoted a couple a few years back and I went in at £200 for an outside only which I thought was cheap. I found out later they were getting it done for £80 lol. I hear lots of other polers saying they have this care home and that care home, in reality I'm getting double the money doing a few houses with 100% less agro.

Walk in and ask! I just picked up two jobs on my local high street doing just that. £150 of work per month before I start my domestic 7 am start, then it's hello Mrs Smith @ 8 am. They can only say no!

I find care homes good earners. Between us we have at least 1 to do a day. Some are small £50 places but only take an hour but others are over £400 for a days work which i think is a nice earner.
