I think I need to flush more then.  I do it about once per week while filling the van.  Probably averages about 10-15 minutes per 2500 litres.  After 4 years, it's still turning out water at 008 though (006 was the best ever due to the low pressure).

20 min once  a week is enough.

I go for 20 mins once a week and use about 1800 l a week, I cant really know if that's right for sure yet though as ive only had the thing a couple of months

I read on here a little while ago that gaps water said there is no need to flush the membrane.

I stopped flushing mine over a year ago, and it has had no effect on the membrane. It is nearly 5 years old, water in is roughly 350ppm and the RO output it 18ppm. It produces 2000L a week with  60% waste.

No need to flush. June at Gaps water said that to me. I have not flushed for over a year and everything is fine with mine

I always find flushing has a negative effect on performance on my 4021 membrane so I have also stopped flushing.
It just seemed to slow down production where as now I don't flush production rates stay the same.

Mmm a mix of opinion there then. So how come manufactures recommend flushing a 10 inch membrane...

I flush mine when I change the filters, every 3/4 months. It only removes the particles from the outer skin. My last RO lasted about 12 years.

June at Gaps advised me that if you don't flush, the effect will be to reduce the speed at which you produce pure; it won't affect output TDS.

I flush about every two months for about ten minutes.  Membrane (HF4 4040)  is now two years old and producing at exactly the same numbers as a week after I bought it.

I flush before and after each use, but I produce at least 2k per time I run, I haven't noticed any longevity in low tds doing this, but like vin it is producing water at the same speed as when new.

Pre filter changes are more important IMO

sorry for my ignorance ,

how do you flush the membrane  .

Mine has shot up from 15ppm  to 35ppm over a year so would know if the flushing might help .

Hi frankwii,
Its martin from sandbanks road, if you need any advise text me on 07588620759, have you got a clarke water pump?
if not you need one as your tds will slowly creep up to the 50,s. I went through a 40/40 once a year till i bought one. Had mine over a year now and tds is still  around 10 from 400 tap water. i presume your water pressure in poole is crap too?

Hi Martin.  Thanks for that info.  I've put a water pump  in during the weekend and it brought the tds down to 30 after being aprox 15 to 20. The ro membrane is only a year old and it shot upto 50 within a couple of weeks.  Unfortunately hard water and pressure fluctuating   in the area not helping much. If I can squeeze another year out of it would be great.  Thanks for the suggestion though

Hi Martin
I am just ordering a replacement 4040 membrane for a used system I recently bought. What model Clarke pump do you use?
Thanks
