Title: Airflex Storm - Hose size

What hose size is best to use on the Airflex Storm, 1.5 or 2 inch?
Do you get a LOT more airflow with the 2" hose, or is the trade off not worth while on a portable?

You will always get better results with airflow optimised machines using 2" hoses
I noticed a massive difference when I changed from 1.5"

I second that!

The difference between 1.5" and 2" is vast. I would never go back to 1.5" now.

i use my 2 inch first which is brill, but if i need longer i add me inch and a half which i had prior to buying the storm, still sucking well with 5oft 2 inch and 50ft inch and half.........

i have a storm and i was told up to 50ft there is no noticeable difference between 1 1/2 inch and 2 inch. You will only notice the difference from 50ft plus.

Another consideration is if using inline heaters the water may not cool down quick enough  under 50ft before it enters the vac chamber, the hot wet air can then be pulled through the vacs, same goes if you empty the solution  tank of hot water with the vac hose. Best to dump a bucket of cold water to cool it down or pump it through.

Maybe if you were emptying very hot water from the waste tank in bulk but... in normal extraction by the time the water travels from the jet to the carpet, travels trough the carpet, in to the wand and is mixed with air over 50 ft of vac hose it will be very cool. This will not have an adverse effect on vac motors. Try extracting at 110 degrees then feel the temperature of the water in the waste tank... it will be barely 20 degrees quite likely not even that.

It also depends on water pressure and flow ! If you are cleaning say 500psi at 110 degrees you will end up with quite hot water in the waste tank, but you will be using a truck mount as portys using an inline can't sustain that type of temperature above 250 psi
so to recap say we are using a Storm with a magna heater set at 110 degrees at aprox 200 psi the recovery water is going to be barely warm
