Hi Everyone.
The UK's first solar panel cleaning training event took place on Saturday. It was much anticipated and we were glad to have 29 delegates attend from 17 different companies.
Some companies were one-man operations, others were companies with 4 or 5 vans on the go.
The vast majority of delegates had cleaned less than 1,000 panels, but a couple had cleaned slightly more.
You can read feedback about the training here: http://www.solar-panel-cleaners.com/solar-panel-cleaning-training-hailed-as-a-success

"but it is proved that solar panel cleaning is necessary in the UK. "
however it has been proven
I'd suggest you get someone to proof read your website; there's quite a few grammatical errors in just the little I've read there.
-
Cant belive Solar Steve is on here as well, Steve your like poverty you get in everywhere
-
Training course to clean solar panels lol leave off ;D
-
He's been all over the other 'window cleaning forum'
Basically trying to get money for something that's as basic as going for a poo.
It's solar panel cleaning, not rocket science. Will you go away now Steve, and sort your website out, it's like reading a 6 year olds homework ::)roll

Hi Tosh.
Thank you for that spot. I will get it corrected ASAP.

I'm afraid so. But if you care to look back through my previous threads, you'll see the number of posts and page views are among the highest seen on here. So what I'm doing is obviously of keen interest to someone out there.
I'm glad you are taking note of my threads on other forums.
My days of justifying myself on here are over. Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon...No matter how good you are, the bird is going to crap on the board and strut around like it won anyway.
Look out for future threads. I'm going nowhere. ;D

Not taking sides here but brilliant analogy Steve.
Quite a few pigeons on CIU.
(Especially in the spazzy section ;D)

"It's not rocket science" is one of the most pointless analogies out there. Of course it's not rocket science. Only rocket science is rocket science. Anything else is its own entity.
But no. I won't go away. ;D

The funniest thing I've seen Steve is the 100's of comments hammering your silly ploy to make money on the other forums. You literally are trying to make money by making up a certificate for cleaning solar panels, that's the funniest thing I've heard all year.
Not one part of what your doing is necessary nor accredited in any way.
Your basically just like those imbeciles that pose as charity workers steing people's money for your own gain!
-
I am laughing if your getting people to pay you to show them how to clean solar panels fair play to you,do you prey on the elderly to or rattle a fake charity box at Christmas. All I can say is they must be greener than grass mate
-
Steve can you tell us whats to stop them passing on all the information you gave them at this course on the forums?

could simply keep your silly comments to yourself - forum would be more professional if you did't speak.
-
Steve can you tell us whats to stop them passing on all the information you gave them at this course on the forums?
Good point! But, Steve subs the work out to the people who attended the course. My guess is it was/is subcontracting panel cleaning.
-
Is that you in your profile picture monkey boy, more professional what teaching people to clean solar panels. numpty and cheese spring to mind.
-
Why dont you give the man a break. You dont have to do the course if you dont want to, we didnt. He's not pushing it on anyone.
We have done loads of work for Steve as have others on here. He gets the jobs and subs them out for a fair price commercial and residential every ones a winner.
-
Hi Steve can you email me some details of your course costs and when you plan to hold another one and where it might be held. many thanks
-
Do the course what course, look lads there a big flat square panel there scrub it with the brush first and then rinse it off,if there are fools out there willing to pay to learn something that takes 2 minutes to explain fair play. Sounds like he's doing it so when people look on there website it says something along the lines of we clean solar panels and are certified to clean them,it won't catch on though people couldn't careless your covered on your public liability or I am anyway.

Exactly, well said that man.
It's ridiculous to charge for such a ridiculous course. It's daylight robbery. Solar panel cleaning does not need to be learnt via a paid course. There is plenty of free info on forums, why would you pay for a training course and a certificate that has no reputable meaning what's so ever?
I'm gonna set up a course soon called 'how to buy a squeegee' should be good, because lots of people don't know how to buy one!
You get a certificate, and it only costs you £150, now start the que!
-
The people going on this course simply need work! They are not there to learn how to clean a solar panel, they are there to sign up as a subcontractor and have work spoon fed to them by Steve's company. They aren't going to come on here and spill the beans because they would jeopardise their chances of getting any work subbied to them (probably signed the official secrets act anyway).
So, in essence £250 or whatever it costs to get some work probably doesn't seem a bad deal to them. Personally, I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than clean fields of identical panels day in day out but each to their own.
-
I'm gonna set up a course soon called 'how to buy a squeegee' should be good,
"How to use a squeegee" and you'd have some potential clients. Theres plenty on here can use a brush on a pole but havent the slightest idea about traditional cleaning. I was told theres a fella who franchises work to legitimate guys around the Southampton area who cant squeegee. Seems remarakable to me that you claim to be a window cleaner but cant actually clean using one of the recognised methods that the majority of shiners still use.
-
Couple of things:
Daylight robbery? ::)roll If you want to go on the course, pay for it. Nothing more nothing less.
Public liability insurance will not cover the solar panel being worked on. There is no liability to the public. If you're insured to work on solar panels, then you're insured, you won't be just because you've got PLI.
Steve promotes himself. He's clearly doing ok. It's how all businessmen should be.
I didn't go on the course but I haven't got a FWC badge, Impact one ConstructionLine or all of that other toot. If you want it, take it. If not, don't.
Why the vitriol for someone who's just trying to promote his business? (That's rhetorical)
-
Guys that do well under the noses of others are always going to get shot down. The thought of others doing better than them in their market-place has been known to sting so it would seem.

I think you will find you have to wear his t shirts with his name on. your van has to have his advertising on and if you stop subbing for him you have to give back the certificate that you paid 250 quid for. so unless you get work from him 5 days a week you will be turning up to your own jobs with someone elses advertising on, less you got a spare van sitting on your drive that you can wheel out when solar steve has a bit of spare work to throw your way. And the world wonders why there are so many con artists about.

I assume that's aimed at me, though I'm at a loss as to what makes my guys "legitimate". You may wish to check your facts before shooting your mouth off. Find a place where I've ever said I don't know how to use a squeegee. I've repeatedly said that I don't use one. That's very different.
My franchisees don't use squeegees and they all earn a great deal of money.

Its not aimed at anyone chap, I was saying I'd heard there was a fella in Southampton etc etc.
If the person who said this was refering to you then so be it, but I dont know maybe he means someone else, how many franchise window cleaning businesses are there in Southampton? If you're competent with a squeegee theres nought to concern yourself is there.

Your wide-eyed innocence is laughable. "Not aimed". "How many franchise..." etc, etc. Very droll, I'm sure.
Conflating "being a window cleaner" with "being able to use a squeegee" is nonsensical. I'm not remotely concerned about squeegee skills. None of my franchisees use them or have the skills; there is no situation that we have come across that requires them.
I sincerely hope that you know how to dry rag a window. You're no sort of shiner if you can't.

Aww, bless. Insinuation, innocence and now patronising abuse. What's next, leave in a flouncing huff and stamp up to your room?
Why not deal with the meat of the argument rather than attacking me on a personal level?
It is perfectly possible to be a window cleaner and never use a squeegee. Discuss.

That would be like someone discussing the pros and cons of a mechanical soil digger with you compared to manually digging the garden. As you've only ever known how to use the mechanical device frankly it would be a pointless conversation.
Apparently.
By the way not all your franchisees are ignorant or incompetent when it comes to using a squeegee.

Just to clarify:
"Because of the value of the information that we will be sharing, we have a number of objectives that we will need our subcontractors to agree to:
1. Promote the Clean Solar Solutions brand by way of our logo and a web link from your website to ours and a vehicle decal being added to your vehicle signage. This is mutually beneficial. Our brand will gain wider exposure. Your potential clients when they are searching for a solar panel cleaner in their area will see that you are a Clean Solar Solutions Ltd Approved Contractor. Because of the reputation we hold within the solar industry, this will give you an edge over your competitors who claim to be 'fully trained';. They will not be fully trained because there is no training for solar panel cleaning available apart from our training course. You will be able to present a certificate of training, whereas they will not. If you have information flyers or packs which you present to clients, having our logo present is also mutually beneficial for the same reasons as above.
2. Wear Clean Solar Solutions branded tops on industrial/commercial/agricultural jobs. It is important that subcontractors are seen to be Clean Solar Solutions representatives when they are on one of our sites. If it is a residential job, we are reasonable. For the time it will take to do the job and because it is likely to be fitted in with your regular work, we would not expect for you to change clothing. However, on commercial scale jobs, wearing our branded clothing will be a requirement.
3. If for whatever reason you decide not to continue subcontracting for Clean Solar Solutions Ltd, we will ask you to relinquish your training certificate and you will no longer be able to represent the Clean Solar Solutions brand. This is to protect our brand from potentially unsafe or substandard work being carried out under our brand.
4. We will not train two potential subcontractors in the same area. This would be counterproductive for all parties.
The cost of attending the event for the first person is £199.00 +V.A.T. If you would be interested in bringing along more than one employee from your company, the cost for each further person is just £99.00 + V.A.T. This provides exceptional value for money considering the possibilities the solar panel cleaning industry holds."

Until you get asked to clean insides and you turn round and say, "I'm sorry but I can't use a squeegee."
Totally unprofessional in my book 👎

I agree, and only a madman would say that. We just say "we don't do insides, sorry. We just have to charge too much". Then we show them how they can do it with a good quality microfibre (which we give them) and a plant sprayer (which we also give them). The result of that conversation is:
1. They are pleased because we've saved them a lot of money.
2. We are pleased. because we don't have to mess about finding people in.
3. I'm ecstatic, because I HATE being inside customers houses for a dozen reasons. Quite possibly the customer feels the same.
4. We make more money because we stick to doing what we do best, namely cleaning the outside of peoples' windows with WFP.
5. No-one has ever asked us to clean the insides after being given the kit.
I think (recalling from memory here) that we regularly do the interiors of about half a dozen panes of glass spread across all of us, generally for pensioners. I also do one house about once a year for an old biddy who simply can't do them herself. We use a squeegee on the communal area of one set of flats, so the squeegee skills that every window cleaner must have are honed four times a year.

Dave, is that genuine ?
I mentioned this when Steve started a thread a few weeks back before it got pulled, what and which official training organisation is backing up this training ?
If none my "training certificate " is as valid as any other in this instance
If someone has "passed" a training course you can not demand a certificate to be returned because they no longer wish to do your work.
This sounds more like an "approved supplier" set up to me, to which I have no problems with.
Just don't like Hong Kong phooey that your a superior, trained solar panel operative.
Two arrays were done by ourselves today, fully trained, and I can knock you up a certificate from my notebook should you wish to see one ;D

Yer it's genuine. That's Steve's words lifted off another forum. The way I understood it there is no official body so your certificate would be as good as the next guys ;D The plan is to run it as an unofficial training programme until it becomes recognised and then Steve will be the official trainer of panel cleaning. I'm not sure what would happen if a dozen or so "training centres" all popped up at the same time though.

Wonder if Solar Steve could be held liable if anyone trained by him got hurt/injured cleaning solar panels?

So to clarify:
All attendees of the course have agreed, without coercion, to wear our branded hi-viz vests on our jobs, to carry our signage on their vans to say they are a Clean Solar Solutions Approved Contractor and the carry our logo and include a hyperlink from their website to ours.
In return, they have exclusivity over an area. When we received a job in their area, it is passed to them, they clean it, invoice us and are paid by BACS within 30 days.
It is a very straightforward win, win situation.
As Mother Theresa said "I can do things you cannot. You can do things I cannot. Together, we can do great things."
My company can get jobs that others cannot. Approved Contractors can make cleaning them profitable, whereas because of distance, I cannot. Together, we are cleaning a shed load of solar panels.
Is it a difficult concept? No.
Is it worth arguing about? No.
You are either in or out. It's up to you.

Thats the problem people have with you steve. My company can get jobs that others cannot. your quote, you think that all the solar pannels in the uk belong to you and the rest of us are dick heads. Do you have work to keep people going 5 days aweek every week so there van with your name on it is not just sitting on there drive and do you tell em that before you rinse em for 250. you come across as arrogant that does not make you a good buissnes man it makes you a tw-at.

I apologise.

iv read the thread on another forum and some of your comments on there were personel actually they were very belittling but thats just you all over you think your far superior to every one else turns out the guy you were mocking was a falklands war vet.
If Thats the sort of person you are and people still want to deal with you then shame on them. I also read that the big solar companys were monorting your thread if they deal with someone like you they should be named in a blog something like these companys deal with solar steve the guy that belittles war vets.

Most people know steves course is b******s and money for old rope.
But as a business man huge respect, his course is obviously making him money and people are attending and buying into his course, so whether what he is selling is poope or not you cant knock his hustle, putting grapes into water and telling you its wine.

I told you they would advertise saying we are solar panel cleaning approved or something similar, you will need to sink a lot of money into advertising but I suppose the pratts that do the course will help pay for that.

He's saying that Solar Steve took the mick out of a Falkland's veteran (vets look after animals by the way) for not being able to spell, yet this guy had the courage to do some pretty unsavoury stuff in the service of his country.
He's basically saying Solar Steve was in the wrong for doing so ; that this country sometimes requires people who aren't educated public school boys to do the jobs that most of us can't.

I read it as the mawkish, sycophantic attitude towards anyone that was in the military that often prevails. In fairness to Solar Steve, it takes a special type of person to turn out an army of solar panel cleaners in regulation t shirts and trainers. From what he's said, cleaning solar panels is up there in terms of danger with patrolling Helmand.

Nope. Doesn't help at all. The fact someone was in the armed forces makes them no better or worse than anybody else.
I have no idea about the issues between solar steve and anybody else, but to basically try to destroy someone's reputation over some grammar nazi nonsense is totally pathetic.
HTH.

I went on the course and it was the first time I met Steve. I found him to be a very genuine bloke and he has a lot of motivation and good ideas.
I have been cleaning solar panels on farms for just over a year and have cleaned over 50,000 of them. I chose to go on the course and took my 2 employees with me. I wanted to make sure what we do already was safe and to get in on an opportunity at ground level.
Did we learn anything? Yes we did, there were a lot of things I already knew, but there were a few details that I didn't which made it worth every penny!
I can get my own work and all we do is clean solar panels now, it is nice to be part of a network that looks out for each other.
It can work both ways if Steve gets jobs near me I can do them, if I get jobs that I can't do due to distance or I have other commitments I can call on Steve and he will help to get the work done with one of the other approved contractors.
There were quiet a few companies on the course that had never cleaned a solar panel and want to get into the market so the course had a lot more value for them, but I am pleased what I took from it and look forward to what the future can bring.

I - or anyone else didn't say that did we? But I do think Falkland veterans, along with those who served in tough roles in Iraq and Afghanistan do deserve respect. But that's just me. I don't really care who you respect or not, though it's probably the latest winner from X Factor or something.
You have the freedom to choose what you do and what to think because of guys in the armed forces.
Enjoy.

Try to have at least one day off being stupid. I never once mentioned that veterans didn't deserve respect. I merely pointed out that whether having served or not, everybody is the same when it comes to things like forums. Also, none of us know the whole story with the Veteran on the other website? He might be saying some appalling things about Solar Steve.
Wouldn't you stick up for yourself, no matter what someones previous occupation was?

Not always, no, particularly when I'm dealing with someone who is stupid. ;) ;D

How can you get your own work now? Does Steve wear your T shirts if he does work for you? I'm confused
-
I already have my own work and I will continue building my business and canvassing for work. If a job comes in through Steve I will fit it in.
-
Wonder if Solar Steve could be held liable if anyone trained by him got hurt/injured cleaning solar panels?
No.
-
Thats the problem people have with you steve.
I'm sure your articulate choice of words above endears you to other businessmen on here who are looking for intelligent business partners! You are definitely showing me where I'm going wrong and how I need to adjust my style!
-
Couple of things:
Daylight robbery is a strong term to use eh Poleking? I agree with you. It's an offer, the same as an offer in a supermarket. If you don't want it, you don't write to the product manufacturer sounding off to him. Just don't buy it! ;D

iv read the thread on another forum and some of your comments on there were personel actually they were very belittling but thats just you all over you think your far superior to every one else turns out the guy you were mocking was a falklands war vet.
If Thats the sort of person you are and people still want to deal with you then shame on them. I also read that the big solar companys were monorting your thread if they deal with someone like you they should be named in a blog something like these companys deal with solar steve the guy that belittles war vets.
That he may be a war vet is completely irrelevant to the context of this discussion.
-
Having a dig at the guy for not being able to spell for crap and trying to make him look small. I will now say i no the man he saw and did things that would make a rat puke and no one cared how clever he was then.
What on earth has a bloke's war record got to do with anything?
I was wondering the same. Think if I was Solar Steve, I would monitor these accusations closely.
I have been Hummer, but have been too busy to reply.

I'm sure you don't mind me saying Luke that you enquired about the training course two days before it took place. You spent X amount of pounds with us, brought multiple staff and hopefully, you found the course to be useful to your business.
For all of the onlookers, Luke's first job for us will be done next week. It is a total of 600 panels across 3 roofs. It pays for his course already.
What's not to like?

Guys FFS when it comes to cleaning solar panels its so FE, to do it right you must have proper access equipment, deep clean the panels manually and when they are dry apply some liquid glass technology which will keep the panels clean for 12 to 24 months also note the extra output in electricty generated will justify the extra charges applied and the next time you go to clean them the soils will just fall off with ease, google liquid glass technology and go with a company who will share everything you need to know about the cleaning and protection of solar panels, you then just need to explain to your custys your methods and all the features and benefits of the technology you are using to maintain their solar panels, companies promoting liquid glass technology will share some very interesting information with you that won't be shared on this forum and you will find it easy to explain to your custys the extra charges involved in having to hire access equipment to carry out this work properly, it is also going to be a huge market to get involved with for the future, just to finish again google liquid glass technology and talk to a few of the different manufacturers until you come across one that you feel comfortable working with.

Go tell 'em Tiger.

What a load of rubbish scrub and rinse it ain't rocket science there outside in the elements getting hammered buy wind rain and hail

Normally I'd be a bit dubious about something like this but to be honest I can clearly see where Solar Steve is coming from. The fee is peanuts in reality & worth it just for peace of mind if nothing else. The bigger he gets the more chance of the subbies getting good work from it. Good luck to him I say. He's put the effort into gaining the knowledge & contacts so IMO the fee he's charging is more to do with covering costs than making money on it. If it was closer to me I may consider it, not for domestic arrays but certainly larger contracts.
-
Cleaning solar panels is a piece of pee I've cleaned loads but I tell you what I wouldn't want to clean them all day long.
-
clean then seal them, you can charge far more and the custy will always only call you if you explain all the features and benefits of having their panels sealed as well as cleaned.

I could do if it's a big enough job. I would need to travel about 1hr 15 mmins each way.
