Title: Size of hose
Post by: clarkson on April 20, 2015, 08:24:07 pm
Hi
I am putting my gear on a trailer.

I currently have quite beefy hoses  and find it heavy to work with. However I want to set up a reel with 30-40meters of pressure hose.

I have some assorted lengths of 3/8 th hose but have never used it for pw. Will it effect pressure at the lance and will I loose pressure at  40meters?

Cheers

John

I run about 45m of 3/8 with a 10m length of 1/4 at the gun. I add another 15m if 55m is not enough and have never had any problems

On a decent size machine there should be no difficulty in using 75m of hose.
On  flows of 15lpm or more 3/8 would be better than 1/4 as the resistance can cause a pressure spike but nothing major to worry about so long as the machine can clear the water efficiently.
If you are looking for light weight hose and currently have the heavy twin wire type stuff rated to 400bar look for some twin wire compact hose the working pressure is slightly lower at 330 Bar but it weighs the same as single. (Internal wire wound more tightly so doesn't have a second set of outers with extra rubber layer to get rating)

Also when reels are sold they are usually done so by capacity in single wire hose so a 30m reel won't necessarily take 30m of twin wire hose. Some do some don't. :)
