Title: Streamline lite 5 hose - Quick-Lok users
Post by: DeLuce on March 31, 2015, 08:59:49 pm
I've ordered some lite 5 hose to try as many recommend it, the stuff I'm using at the moment is doing my head -in!! Thing is, what do you use to connect to the brush? I have bodged something up, but this hose is a mm to big to go into the push in / pull out connectors? Anybody found something that works well and tidily? Thanks.

I use the y shaped connectors, that fit inside the hose.
Very good hose, I am still using some that is 7 years old..

One of these would do the job - http://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/all-products/pump-hose/john-guest-fittings/metric-fittings/push-fit-8mm-stem-to-5mm-barb.html - this would push into the hose and then the 8mm stem would fit the push-fit connectors.

This could connect to the push-fit connector just below the gooseneck or directly to the push-fit T Connector on the brush.

i was talking to wcw today about this 5mm stuff & they recomended the 8mm stem to 6mm barb, heat the hose to fit it & it gives a much tighter connection

I've got a couple of spares of those connectors and just ordered x4 more so I'll give that a go 👍

We have had these new red 5mm stem to barb adapters made specifically for 5mm ID hoses.

These are best fitted with just a little heat such as 10 seconds in boiling  water.

In our testing  without any clips/clamps fitted they gripped the 5mm ID hose better/harder than the 6mm stem to barb adapters.

The reason is that to fit 5mm ID hose over the slightly larger 6mm versions (which are larger than 6mm in order to grip on to 6mm ID hose) the hose has to be heated more and stretched slightly more. This then means that the PVC hose has lost some of its elasticity which means it cannot shrink back quite as tightly.

The 5mm barbs are slightly smaller (although still larger than 5mm in order to grip the 5mm ID hose) which means the hose does not need to be heated or stretched as much and therefore retains it's grip ability to a greater degree.

Only a small difference but we thought it worth making them specifically for this size hose as most water-fed poles now have 5mm ID hose.

Of course the above is just based on our findings and testing  :)

the thing is with pole hose like streamline lite 5 is it tends to attract dirt to it as the surface isnt smooth.its textured.also you need to fit adaptors if you use push fit connectors.it still tangles up too.its also got an annoying stringy layer woven into the hose that frays over time.

PU hose is still the best of a bad bunch IMO.easy to wipe clean, very hard wearing and just pops into your  push fit connectors and your ready to go.very lightweight.
