I am just about to submit my ad to the yellow pages.
I have noticed that some domestic and commercial cleaning companies advertise in two classifications. Remarkable that those who advertise in both classifications have a bigger advert in Cleaning & Maintenance Services and smaller in Cleaning Services - Domestic.
Any comments?

Arthur

you normally find that they have done a deal with yellow pages where if you take out a larger ad in one section they will give you a good discount on a second one
-
As far as I know Yellow Pages are not keen on discounts linked to the number of ads you are prepared to place. They have refused to offer any discounts when I suggested to book three ads in three different classifications: Cleaning & Maintenance Services, Cleaning Services - Domestic and Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning.
They have, however, offer a first time listing discount for one specific classification for one specific size.

If you ask them, they'll send one of their Reps out to you and they will negotiate on their prices.

What I have found with Yellow pages is the price is the price and is non negotiable, I was spending £1,600 per year and canceled when they refused to discount for me. I just did not get the work from them but it is a really thick book covering a large area, this is why I think it did not work for me, regards Phil.
AJ I had adds in carpet cleaning section and domestic cleaning.
-
Ali, I do not think there is a big difference between negotiating their prices over the phone with your YP account manager or with a local representative.
Phil, I thought that it was worth traveling for getting carpet cleaning jobs...
However, we concentrating on domestic customers and my enquiry was whether it worth placing ad in Cleaning & Maintenance Services in order to get domestic jobs.

My first year was in Cleaning & Maintenance and cost over £3,000 and it returned very little, then the next year I went in Domestic cleaning but had the same poor result, My only worry is that it may work in a different way as in getting my brand out there but will see as the year goes bye, it is worth traveling but we was not getting any work from it. Kind regards Phil

I'm just going by experience, as when we tried over the phone, we got one of those pushy sales people that didn't really know what we wanted. The rep that came out to us was really helpful, looked at our website and flyers then helped with the advert, etc.

Ali,
I have got a completely different experience.
I have attached a file the invoice, which my local YP representative e-mailed to me to sign and fax it back to him. He wanted me to pay £100 more for the yell.com ad, than I have paid when I placed my ad contacting yellow pages over the web/phone.

It wasn't a Yell rep we had, it was a Yellow Pages rep, and we were happy with the service and weren't charged anymore for it (as far as I know)

It wasn't a Yell rep we had, it was a Yellow Pages rep...
What is the difference?
Yell.com and yellow pages run by the same company (http://www.yelldirect.com/yellgroupproducts/), which has also got 118247 directory and yellow business pages.

You're like a dog with a bone ::)

Ali, people do feel sad when they get things wrong, but there is no reason to offend anybody who makes a point... 8)
-
I rest my case!
I'm not sad ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I don't profess to know everything and when I'm wrong I'll admit it. All I've said is was what we've experienced. It seems you always try to disprove people. I won't get drawn into another of your "tete a tetes".
As for offending people, lets say no more on that shall we ;)
I don't get off on this kind of thing, so end of posting on this subject for me.
Bye :)

...when I'm wrong I'll admit it.
Well you were wrong assuming that yellow pages and yell.com run by different companies.
...All I've said is was what we've experienced.
What you have said was:
It wasn't a Yell rep we had, it was a Yellow Pages rep...
...It seems you always try to disprove people...
What I do is making a point, if you cannot address it in a correct way then probably you should do what you have already said:
...end of posting on this subject for me.

Why the debate now when you had the quote in January?
-
Why the debate anyway, Arthur, get a life mate, if you put half the energy into positive things other than what you dream up of posting on here then maybe we can all come and work for you. After all we know nothing compared to your vast knowledge of just about anything. Oh my mistake, just about everything, best, Dave...... P.S. If you reply to this then you will be talking to yourself but then I am sure that is ok as I feel you like the sound of what you write..... Dog with a bone couldnt be more apt!!!!

RCS,
The topic was not about the quote...
...If you reply to this then you will be talking to yourself...
Liahona,
I would only like to say that I have been avoiding reading your post for some time, now, you posted on the topic, which I have started and I have red your post, however, as always there was nothing to pay attention to... ;D so I would not bother doing it in the future... ;D

Arthur

I always read Liahona's articles with relish, when it comes to carpet cleaning he has got to be in the top 5 most knowledgable.
I bet you anything you like that you read those posts A & J.
AJ ignores my posts too because I think he is a complete idiot, so join the fastest growing club on the forum Dave ;D
-
AJ,
Your responses to peoples posts really aren't doing you any favours.
Picking holes in comments and starting arguments with experienced people like Liahona and the therapist, is going to have an adverse effect on others posting replies to your questions, as you come across as being very arrogant.
Your answers to daviesali for example, were well out of order.
Take my advice or ignore it, but very soon you'll be wasting your time posting.

I wish everyone would stop bloody narking at each other and get back to helping, if you don't agree with someones point of view, agree to differ, constantly harping on about it will only get peoples backs up.
If you have a point to make then make it , if somebody else disagrees then thats their right, neither of you might be right or wrong but constantly going over the same stuff just gets people riled and they end up falling out.
Lets learn from each other, not fight with each other.
This posting is not directed at any particular person or company but the previous replies in this topic alone are a good example.
C'mon guys......agree to differ and get on with it.
Tom
