Title: chewing gum removal
Post by: jamie macdonald on March 29, 2015, 10:20:56 pm
Hi guys I'm looking to adjust what I'm currently getting paid for chewing gum removal from a lare night club I clean. I'm currently getting £40 for a session of removal. I'm using a frank osprey steam cleaner to do the job as chemicals are too expensive. The job takes 3-6 hours depending on how busy it's been. And I removed on average 500+ pieces of gum.

Do any of you remove gum ? What do you price ? Per piece / hourly rate? Any advice would be great as I'm always being told that they can get it done cheaper if I argue the price and don't really know about pricing the job.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jamie, as Radek has pointed out you are earning £10 or less per hour for chewing gum removal in a nightclub, if you had posted this in the carpet cleaning section you would be shot, Jamie if they are telling you they can get it done cheaper £40 for 3 to 6 hours work let them go and get it done cheaper, to be honest Jamie i don't think they will get it done for cheaper than your rate they are just trying it on with you, i take it you are new to cleaning Jamie, if i can offer you some  advice always put a high value and a fair price on the services you are offering if you don't you will never become successful in this industry.

not a specialist in hard floors yet, just reading this part of forum already

i am carpet cleaner and last time i did gums on carpet i charged 2euros per gum,  there was around 50 and 10 i did inside the normal carpet cleaning and did an extra 80e to the invoice, for the first 1.5 hr i made 150 for just a carpet cleaning and another hr for the gums, from the 80euros 20 euro was to cover chems.

i say is easier to remove it from hard floor but still you need around 30 per hour if you are just a cleaner as you are not doing this with a piece of cloth or 50 and more if you do pro floor cleaning.

If it was me I would charge it at least around 200.

Hi Radek, think of all the Pubs and restaurants who have ugly black wads of chewing gum stuck to their vinyl and wood floors and don't have a clue how to remove them, this is a very lucrative add on service for any carpet or hard floor cleaning  guys who are tuned in to earning  extra revenue streams, i think the best tool available for providing this service is from contico  as their floor scraper comes with sprung steel blades which just whip the black chewing wads  away from vinyl and wood floors with ease and without causing any damage to the surfaces, sometimes there will still be a sticky residue left behind especially from chewing gum wads which have been there for long periods of time, again just apply a small amount of chewing remover to a microfiber cloth and these residues will wipe away with ease. If you are reading this Jamie shag your nightclub owners and start promoting this solution which is a huge problem in thousands of Pubs and Restaurants and you can start to earn easier and serious money.

Thanks for the reply's I've told the manager I want £40ph from now on and I'm waiting to hear back. I have clearly undervalued the service as tbh I had never done it before and didn't realise how long / hard it was to do.  Advice taken.
