My pole is looking a little grey, can it be re-lacquered?

Thanks Lads!

What lacquer do you use, what's it called?
-
Yes here is a slx25 I did recently. All my poles get the treatment even gutter vac poles 😄👍

The first tin of Lacquer I bought was Gunk Engine Laquer and Protector. I bought it from Halfords for £5.99. It was jolly good stuff.
I went back to Halfords for another tin only to be told that they no longer sell it. Their own brand (Halfords Bodyshop Lacquer was far superior and was only £9.99 for the same size aerosol. It was/is awful - didn't stick to the carbon as well and very quickly started to flake off.
I applied the lacquer in exactly the same way as I did the Gunk lacquer.
Number 23 has a video out on YouTube showing his dad spraying some poles with Simoniz Lacquer which they are happy with.

Lasts a good few months. I think he is using ALLOY WHEEL lacquer now. You use that after a wheel repair. IT IS a lot harder so he tells me.

The Gunk engine lacquer was definitely harder than the Halfords stuff.

I've been using the Simoniz lacquer, didn't last due to dirt etc if not washed out every day. Months ago I changed from running the hose internal to external and what a difference it makes by running the pole hose outside. It's going to add years to the life of the pole.

Very light coating and done on a reasonably warm sunny day .
Lay it on to thick and it will chip and flake off , from experience of spraying another carbon pole 2yrs ago .
Lacquered my SLX this week and all is good .

I honestly don't know what people are doing. I have seen 2 or comments over the years about it ruining poles and not working.
I think the video COULD be to blame though.
I have watched my dad do it several times.
strips down pole to just sections
Cleans them all
Sometimes gives them a 2000 grit sand (very rare)
Light dusting of lacquer.
Hour later or when slightly tacky another coat.
Then maybe one more.
Left to dry for 24 hours.
Jobs a good un.
You need a light coat, it says that in the video. If you are putting on a 2/3/4mm of course it will chip and crack!

I'm going to try this tomorrow. Thanks for the information.

is this similar to using dry ptfe spray ?

Yes and No , If you have looked after your slx and have not worn it down so that it has lost its sheen and looks grey not black then use PTFE maybe .
If it has been totally abused and worn down and looks grey and knackered then use laquer .

I done mine last week with satin Lacquer which i think is better :D

No, some people just have too much time on their hands.
