He went to drive off this morning and someone had hack sawed his catalytic converter off. :( It was parked on the main street as well. That a few quid down the drain.

Sorry to hear that. Somebody got a grudge coz that's a strange thing to do :o
Looking on the bright side, just buy a link pipe and fix it together. Should be a bit quicker and more responsive!! ;D

.... and an MOT failure. Under the new MOT regulations if a cc is supposed to be there, then its a failure if it isn't.

Unbelievable, but its not a new issue. CC are worth a bit as scrap.
Might be an idea to have an engineering company make up a steel mesh cover to protect the replacement. Once they find an easy target they will have another go as they know the replacement is brand new.

Yeah been thinking that. It's is scrap value there after.

Might be an idea to have an engineering company make up a steel mesh cover to protect the replacement. Once they find an easy target they will have another go as they know the replacement is brand new.

They look for vehicles that have good road clearance so they can just slip underneath without having to jack it up. A battery saw is all they need to have to out in a few minutes tops.
You can buy a catalytic anti theft device which consist of hardened steel wire loops attached to the chassis.

The original ones are worth £250 scrap, they used a proper exhaust cutter about 5 mins work. The after market one was £100 plus camps fittings and labour and vat.
They will probably not bother with the new one as they only will get £20 scrap.

i was told by the police they get around £50 quids for it ( the platinum in it is what is valuable)
