Title: What planet are people on?
Post by: 8weekly on March 16, 2015, 05:29:17 pm
We turn up for a first clean today that haven't been cleaned for 2 years. Not since the last windy died. Anyway, I felt positive enough that it wasn't a one off and that she would be a good customer that I didn't charge a first clean premium.

Anyway, we pull up and as I walk to the gate she is there and says. "You can't clean them today, it's raining". It wasn't, although it had been. Very quickly in two sentences I explain that it doesn't make any difference, but in truth I don't really care one way or the other so I finish with "Would you rather I didn't clean them?" She replied "Can you come back another day?".

Leaving the  arguments aside about cleaning in the rain, wouldn't you think after two years that she'd just want them cleaned. Obviously I won't be going back.

I turned one down today - only went to price it up really 'cos she sounded nice on the phone  ;)

Anyway, the back garden had long grass and lurking amongst it were several piles of poope.
"But we pick them up in the Summer!"
Cheerio.

Sometimes the ones u don't do end up making u more money as you find a "proper" customer instead

Doing the windows on one of my regulars last week, a neighbour a few doors down pops out and says 'ah brilliant, a window cleaner, I'm usually at work so I don't get to see one. Any chance you could clean mine?'
'Yes, of course' I say, 'a one off or a regular 4 weekly'
'I think regular'
So, I priced for what I would charge her a month, and no extra for a minging first clean, thinking I'll take the hit for a regular,
'All finished' I say, she gives me the £12  quoted, I get my book out to get all the details down and she turns around and says
'Actually, I'll leave the monthly and just catch you when I can'!!
Needless to say, I stewed on it all day. Lesson learned.

The good news is that you found out what this customer was like before you did the first clean.

But yes, a lot of them are mental.

I have plenty of stories from Planet Ireland to regale you with. It's Paddy's Day today and I'm just off to work now, so may have some to tell that haven't even happened yet!
