Do you price a job on what you think you can get , or on the square footage of glass on the house.?
-
Never on square footage of glass as I find that irrelevant. How long it will take, how hard it will be, how convenient it is situated gives me a base price.... Then I decide how much above that I think I can get based on all those little factors which come with experience. ;D

I check the value of their house on zoopla and what car they drive and go from there ;D

What do you do and what defines greed in your world?

i clean windows & greed is greed. it means you want more than you need. it,s simple.
-
I price on how hard it is, with a little bit of savy. I never try to get as much as I can. Then loads of times they have been shocked how cheap it is, when I thought they would be shocked how much it was. Most think WFP will be a lot more than Trad. Its more but not 5 times more

That's not greed. You could live in a shack, dress from charity shops and eat gruel. That's all you need.

It's not though is it? My need may be greater than yours, my area may be more affluent where people expect to pay more than say a £10.
Reginal North south divide and so on.
Nobody is held to ransome that's the price, you don't have to use me and if I don't get a few because people think it's too much or I'm being greedy, then so be it.
Where are you based China?
;D

+1 but the attitude of the customer comes into play too.
And whether they're prepared to pay via GoCardLess.

I dont really need to gain anymore customers if im honest , I have more than enough customers and income , yet I get new enquires most days , because I dont particularly need them as new cusomers I always quote very high. I get maybe 50% agree so I take them on , hence my turnover always increases year after year , its called growing a successful business.

You're to be commended for your Christian values.
"Give us this day our daily bread" doesn't mean wanting your bread, plus another seven loaves in the freezer.
Respect.

I take into account how many windows then add a bit for leaded or Georgian access etc

im in a similar position trippy.its took many years though to get there!most enquires i dont even take on unless its right near other work or its a large property with easy access.
you get to a point where sometimes you just dont have the time/inclination to quote another job when you have hundreds of regular customers to plough through.
when your a sole trader you only have a certain amount of time/energy during your working week.i value time off to spend with family/friends/pursuing hobbies(music, drumming in my case) so i pick and choose to a certain extent what other work to take on.obviously i want to make a bit more to make the round a bit more profitable at the end of the year.
im not greedy though IMO.i charge a fair price for the services i offer to certain types of customers.some work is priced a fair bit higher due to obscenely wealthy customers who have porsche 911s and mclaren f4s on their drive! ;D

I call it the k n o b tax.

i go by the square footage approach, pull up on the driveway woth a tape measure and notepad, every foot of window is £1 and if the window is taller than 3ft charge double ;)
seriously though i have a look around, charge according to time it will take to fit in with desired hourly rate
