Hi
Is there anyone who might advise what method and chemical to use to remove rusty streaks from stainless steel?
I attached photos showing scale of a job.
thanks
-
The reasom thats rusted is because its shoit stainless steel - I bets if you put a magnet on it would stay there 316 or 304 is usually non magnetic. You could use phosphoric on it but personally I would buff it with a course soap
-
We can clear this off no problem
Where is the steel?
-
Hi. We will do the job as it's a part of a bigger project. Looking for tried methodology. Thanks for reply though.

As already mentioned use phosphoric acid do not try to use a stronger acid than this such as hydrochloric acid as although it would remove the rust very easily it will damage the stainless steel meaning the rust will come back worse in a matter of days, this may already have been done and that is why the stainless has rusted in the first place

Scotchbrite/mop and soap. Maybe T-cut/cutting compound or Brass if you are stuck. You will have polish/or lacquer it after you have finished…or it will be rusty before you get paid !
It a brushed finish so go with the grain .

If you have never used acid on these jobs you can end up with black burnt edges to clean areas. the reason its rusty is because its cheap inferior material. If it was a smaller area the fool proof way is these rubbing blocks which come in various grades - unlike some don't rub it up the wrong way ;)

Hi
If you need to buy the products we use and want to see an exact same type of steel pole sample picture - e mail darran@purple-rhino.co.uk

Darran,
I was fully intending to get to the show but I ended up working all week again - I had promised to do a fibreglass roof for a builder when the sun came out and it was nice this week :(
I would like to look at your products sometime

Any time - we have some great coatings for Fibreglass
Here are the products we use for stainless steel - these pictures are of a sample I did somewhere in Dartford a few months ago....

A hydrophobic coating Chris

Waterbased?

Waterbased?
No idea - we have it made for us. (too technical and I get confused)
All I can say is that so far in tests we have carried out it has lasted more than 12 months.

Please don't use those two words in the same sentence ;)
I lay the roofs not clean them
