If someone wants to pay you via a bacs payment, do you just send them your account number + sort code, + account name. thats it.
the same as transferring money as in online banking

I also give them a reference number so I know for sure who has paid. I use <housenumber(or first part of house name)><postcode> for a unique reference.
I've known one bank who didn't show the customer's name so there may be others. However, all showed the reference.

I ask them to use there address as payment reference, reason being if threre name is smith or Jones you may have a few on your books with the same name,I've not experienced any problems to date but there's always a first time, the worst thing is when they pay and the reference is window cleaner, works for them but not for us,as we don't have a clue who's paid

Yeah I know. I've got a couple who put "Windows" or similar - luckily they have unusual surnames which are showing up.

Hardest thing is getting them to remember to pay
