Title: Customer paid me £2050 instead of £25!
Post by: Marc Whitbread on February 17, 2015, 09:16:16 pm
Got a call from a custy today to say he was sorry to do this but he was paying my bill at the same time as his credit card and he'd paid me £2,050 if I had received it could I have it back?! funny thing is ages ago he asked for a slip to pay online he then later said he'd paid cash and more or less said I'd had the cash and in future he wanted a receipt then found his bill i'd left! good job I am honest!!  :o  anyone else ever had a wrong transfer?

I had a customer pay me £100 for gutters and windows cleaned, 2 weeks later she transferred me the same payment.
When I informed her she had paid twice she insisted that she hadn't paid already lol
I told her to check her online banking, which she then realised she had already paid but had no recollection of doing it!
She isn't old enough for dementia, only In her 40s, must be early menopause I reckons.

I got paid £240 instead of £24. She told me to keep it and just let it chop away every month. Never again, i'd withdraw the whole lot and insist they take it back. My insurance on my van was due when i got paid it so it came in handy, but i felt like i was cleaning for nothing for ages afterwards. £12 job.

I did a builders clean on a very large house for a managing agents a good few years ago who paid me £325 instead of £75 by bacs. When a few days later I realised I phoned up and spoke to a very disinterested receptionist who told me that I was the lucky one and to keep it which made no sense. She simply didn't want to know.

Being not sure what to do I phoned up again a week or so later and the phone line was no longer in use. Then I sent two letters, the first one by ordinary post and the second by recorded delivery. The recorded delivery one was undelivered.

On the next rainy day a few weeks after, and a few months after being over paid, I drove to their office about 30 odd miles away to read a notice on the front door something about anyone having a claim against the company to put it in writing to an address given who were the appointed receivers or something like that.

I never heard any more about it.

I was once sent a cheque that was meant for the plumber - plus my own cheque in the same envelope.  I had no phone number for her and wasn't due within a few miles of her house for a while so I just posted it back with a covering note.

In a previous business we were not invoiced for a £38,000.00 purchase for 3 years! We obviously kept the money aside and paid when they realised. At about 5% interest this earned a good few quid.

A friend of mine recently got a cheque from his mortgage company for the value of his house, over £160,000.00.  :o The idiot gave it straight back.

Yes you do. There's been a number of cases of people going on a spending spree, such as in the link below, it's classed as 'dishonestly retaining a wrongful credit'.

That's correct (haven't read the garbage link 😃)

I beleive you are well within your rights to bank it though, as long as you return it when asked to do so.

Drinks are on you next time at The Waterwitch then mate  ;)

Maybe he's fiddling his turnover for a mortgage or something?   When you pay it back he can show an additional £2025 as turnover?

I had a clean some time back for an American moving back to USA and my bill was 28 quid she paid me 280 quid. Only seeing the mistake after I did the banking I tried to return the excess and she had already left so a good score for me.
