Why can't I cut rubbers straight I've tried everything ???
-
Do you have a glass scraper? Works perfectly..
Or just a plain Stanley blade, put the rubber on a flat surface and push the blade straight down through the rubber.

Perfect cut every time

scissors

Best with blade but if using scissors, open them up pretty much fully and cut into the front first (part that touches the glass) then if u end up with a little point ya can just nick it off.

thanks do they definitely work because a lot of money :o

Definitely work I've been using them for more than a year and perfect cuts each time. You can change the blade too just Stanley type. It's only a one off £10 but they will last forever and no more crap cuts

thanks I will order one to night

Just use your scraper blade.
-
Hold Stanley knife blade on the rubber. Hit with a hammer.
Short sharp shock.
-
Its quite simple. Please. Theres no need for specialist cutters or hammers or any old clap-trap.
Lay the rubber out flat. Make sure you have a new sharp blade in your scraper. Press the blade on the rubber at the point you want to cut it. Press down firmly.
Once you have done this you will find the rubber has been cut; cleanly, straight, with no added expense, with minimal time, minimal fuss and no need for any extra tools, hammers, cutters or other paraphanalia.
It really couldnt be simpler.

My rubbers are usually pre-cut and molded...
I mean, imagine having your pants around your ankles and saying 'hold up love, need to cut my rubber straight...'
Mood killer...

i buy pre cut too in boxes of 25.(unger soft) :) 14 in

Have you tried doing it sober?

I've got the perfect solution. What is needed is practise and lots of it.
Before undergoing the session make sure you've had a good nights sleep and mentally prepare yourself by sitting quietly for 10 minutes and relaxing. Make sure also you've a bottle of water handy to stop dehydration. It cannot be stressed to much that over doing the practise sessions can leads to all types of problems - emotional, psychological, physical and their is also a danger of RSI and PTSS.
Right, how to cut that perfect rubber.
Get and old rubber and a pair of scissors and practise cutting thin strips of it for 20 minutes a day. After a week, increase the duration to 30 minutes and then gradually work up to an hour a day. After 6 months, you'll get the hang of it and you'll be able to seriously impress other window cleaners with your lightning fast and dead straight rubber cutting abilities.

+1
I used to do it in the kitchen on our big wooden chopping board. I've also done it on my car's bumper. It's easier in the kitchen though.
And use - as Licker's says - a nice new scraper blade.
-
I use a sledge-hammer and an old blunt cold-chisel, get someone to hold the chisel on the rubber and whack with sledge as hard as possible, perfect results every time!
-
What's wrong with buying a tool for £10 to help cut rubbers nice and straight if he can't use a scraper to do it? Better to have a tool to help you do a better job isn't it ? Most people on here have gardiners pole to make there day easier and earn more money but why didn't you stick to the heavy brodex poles which basically do the same job??
-
How can any e stick to a brodex pole when they've never used one?
The point is - cutting a piece of rubber - straight - is hardly rocker science mate, is it? Or am I missing something ?
-
laser beam works for me
-
You can all stop worrying for me now I now can cut straight rubbers ;)
