Hi Folks, just wondering what methods others use to remove lichen from concrete block?
-
Hi
Take a look at Algoclear should be just the ticket.
Andrew
-
I use a thing called "a pressure washer" with ot and if that fails resort to hypo

Andrew
should be just the ticket if you want to wait for over a year for results, even then you may need a repeat treatment ::)roll

Sorry for being thick. Is hypo another name for choline?

Give the guy a break pal, he's asking questions so he can learn and improve his knowledge, that's what a forum is for not for someone to have a dig at. Try advising not criticising

John, trying to be careful here with the name ;)
Are your dilution rates correct ? 1:200 and not 1:20 ?
Cheers Mike
-
John
No disrespect but the product is way overpriced and the dilution rates (200:1 @ 15% active) I am guessing are miles out also.
-
1 -200 is for ongoing maintenance treatment once you are down to a clean subtrate. Find it works well at 20 - 1 on even badly contaminated surfaces.
-
Chris how can you say its overpriced when similar products are 4 - 5 times more.
-
And lichen? Will it remove lichen?
I guess not ::)roll
-
Your product is 15% the most popular "pro" products are 40%/50% . Your product will provide excellent results ,as generally anything containing Quats is ideal for this sort of application.
Mike it will kill lichen within about 3/4 minutes of application….the decay of the residue (what is visible) to the customer will take a while.
"Light green growth " on say fence panels, garden furniture, green house etc will disappear whithin 24hours. Quats can be used in and around the home generally very safely ( common sense applied) it is a very strong antiseptic and mold and fungus killer.
It is bio -degradable and is rendered harmless in 10/12 hours and has no environmental footprint , At these sorts of concentrations it is also "approved" by DEFRA to "go down the drain or sink" (again common sense prevails). It carries the "dead fish " label in concentrated form (as does most things) so care should be applied to it's handling and use.
-
Yes the Pro products are 40% but their standard products are only 10% and still a lot more expensive than ours.
-

That is slightly misleading Chris as these products quats are 'highly toxic' to aquatic life forms.
First I have seen defra quote, as again they should not be allowed to enter storm drains etc

we all know what hypo is like, does that carry the 'dangerous to the environment label' ???
-
Bricks don't carry any label but it don't mean you can throw them at lorrys from motorway bridges. Chemspec 429 is food safe but would you drink it ? Coke has a good quantity of phosphoric acid in it but we drink it - some do anyway. Its all in dilution rates but you can get fined if anything you put into foul drainage out side of perscribed PH perameters.
Its not just about labels ::)roll
-
Yes it does ..and the corrosive label
Skin Corr. 1B H314: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Aquatic Acute 1 H400: Very toxic to aquatic life.
Contact with acids liberates toxic gas. (>= 5%) EUH031
And we do drink that …it's added to all tap water. That goes into your "storm drain"!
PPM is whats important. There will be an acceptable level of contamination …after that you getting your arse felt.
1 ppm = 0.0001 %
40 % Quats at 2% is 2000ppm

Another great analogy ;D other roof cleaning comps claim quats to be enviro friendly which its not, hence ficking label ::)roll

Environmentally friendly does not exist…

Did you you use any hydrocarbons during the process?….you are choking the planet running the Renault/nissan/vauxhall and the Loncin/honda/yanmar.
Petrol, diesel fuel and fuel oil are hydrocarbons. Their molecules are made of carbon and hydrogen atoms. When these fuels burn, the carbon and hydrogen atoms combine with oxygen atoms to produce carbon dioxide and water vapour. These are poisoning the planet.
Your process in no more greener than me with my "dangerous " chemicals.
How did you send the invoice? Was it on paper?
Trees are Enviromentally friendly …unless burnt.

Dear Mr B, just to advise you I am still learning the trade, as this is a part time occupation. I spend most of mytime working abroad and do the odd cleaning job. I must be doing something right, as I started of in a trailer and managed to upgrade to a van set up in a 4yr old merc van within a yr ;) my customers include audi uk , both villa and bcfc players, I also import industrial cleaning equipment. So as you would say a jack of all trades and a master of non ;D oh did I mention that I am on the first page of google.
sorry for the sarcasm, it had be used to knock certain individuals.
A big thank you for those who have shared your wisdom with this novice, especially chris! !! Hope all is well with the reel?
Finally I am fortunate enough to not to rely on this as my main source of income so I actually enjoy waking up on my days off and getting dirty.
-
What machines do you sell?
-
Flat surface cleaners, lances, hoses, reels etc my next trip to the states is not till April. I have a couple of brand new whirlaway's knocking about if your interested? Though they are on for sale, had some silly offers, will not sell for less than 350.

They were £320 a month ago weren't they? Is the price including or + VAT? Did you ever come over for a Wet Vac in the end?
Kevin

Do you have a website? Looking for a reel to mount sideways on a 2 inch tubular frame, won't buy a whirlaway again.
-
You're welcome Serj.
I haven't looked at reel since Saturday morning. Been too busy. Im going to replace seals and hope for the best. Just haven't been out to buy any yet.
I still need your details though mate.
-
Will text them to you. Totally forgot about it.
Kevin I don't have a website, I just get bit's and bobs on my frequent trips to the usa. I used to use a mosmatic, when i first started out, i am a converted whirlaway man now. Half the price and built like brickwall's
