I am a bit simple I know. What does 'self modded' mean and why?
Thanks.

The idea for the attachment to the pole looks simple and quite a good idea.
-
Know it seems simple idea but it allows you to use you pole.
And have a light grip on it. (pole)
It just a proto type bit rough .
But it works.
Most people would be able to make there as well.
But don't knock it till you try it. :)
-
You're not joking are you?
I thought you were having a little laugh at yourself after the squeegee handle stuff.
Come on, put me out of my misery - just tell me it's all a wind-up :)

For someone suffering from trigger finger or any RSI I reckon it might be useful. I have a slight trigger finger on my left ring finger. Not severe enough to want to do anything about it, but if it was, I reckon I'd find the idea really useful.

Exactly for people like your self.
People that suffer from arthritis be able to use hand tool as well with the hand grip for the squeegee.

Well, well, well. I try many of the apparently mad ideas on here on the basis that anything might work. Some are hopeless but this one works.
Made something similar to this and used it for the first time today. Definitely reduced the amount I needed to grip the pole. If I had to estimate, I'd say it halved the grip force required. Thumb and fingers all much less tired than usual (I suffer from trigger finger). Took a few hours to get used to it but really made a difference. It'll be going onto the franchisees' kit as soon as I can get something that looks the part - mine's rather bodged.
H Man, thanks. Great idea.
Alex - you should consider something like this.

Glade it worked out for you.
Yes the one in the video was a quick basic one made up just to show how it works.
Needs the edges smooth etc.
But not only give you a less grip on the pole.
It allows your whole motion at the wrist to move more freely.
Having the lesser grip and free movement means there is less stress on arms and shoulders as well. :)

Be interested in a better way to make these. Mine's part of the top of a bottle. I've had a good look around online for anything that might do the job but I've not come up with anything.

Made this one bit better finished :D
Once you have the size shape.
You then heat it push on pole where you want it to be cools off will not move.
However if you need to move it for some reason reheat then move it.
There would also be other ways to make and put this on the pole as well.
but this is the way we are doing at the moment.
If anyone got a better way of doing or putting this attachment on the pole please let us know :)

Cut it down the side (from top to bottom) so you can open it and put it straight to where you want it on the pole
Fit a small screw thread at top on the outside, so you can then tighten it so it doesnt move on the pole?(almost like a jubilee clip)
-
i use trad poles almost every day and sometimes get cramp in hand. Deof need to be looking at anything which can help. what did you make that out of?

Yes have a trad pole that use all the time.
Had cramping problems also.
So what we did was glue marine carpet onto the bottom of the pole.
It not only make it easier to grip and use.
It like an insulation on the pole great in the winter.
This is how we put it on the pole.

Yes, perfectly. Nothing to see here, move along now...

Yes you are correct.
But it is easier to do because of the way you are now holding it allows you to have a lighter grip.

This is heavy duty PVC electrical conduit.
But you can use other types on PVC conduit as well.

i'm guessing you just heat it up and bend a section back?

But you have to grip this bit of moulded plastic equally as firmly as you have to grip your pole. Otherwise it'll fall out of your hand.
Sorry mate, why don't you just say 'Look I've created an alternative method for holding your pole, it's no better than normal, but it's not quite the same. You know, change is as good as a rest. It feels different but isn't any better'.
Lend some credibility to your offerings.

So you have made one and tried it???

the way we grip our pole jokes aside I think this is something that needs developing further. If I'm wearing gloves i find i don't grip as hard as without. i guess it would be easier with a simple device like this..

They very easy to make and you will notice the difference. :)
Maybe make a video show how they are made??

Rather than just saying it won't make a difference, I tried it. It does make a difference.
Try this thought experiment before saying "you have to grasp it as firmly as your pole" without evidence.
Imagine holding a pole vertically. You have to grip it to stop it slipping out of your hand. Now imagine that it had a firmly fixed lug sticking out of the side. In theory, you could balance it on top of your hand without even holding the pole and the pole wouldn't slip downwards. The weight of the pole would be resting on your hand rather than in your grip.
Now, the way it works out in practice is that the lug sits between your fingers rather than on top of the hand but the reduction in grip needed is very significant indeed.
It's clear that you've already decided that it can't work but if you take that preconception away, you just might see that there could be some truth in it.

The problem as I see it is that you don't always hold the base pole in the same place as sometimes you are working in a narrow path without much room and so adjust accordingly.
-
Yes your right .
There has to be a way so to be able to move it up or down the pole. :)
-
The problem as I see it is that you don't always hold the base pole in the same place as sometimes you are working in a narrow path without much room and so adjust accordingly.
I've come across that and there are two solutions.
One is (as currently) I live with it and just use the pole normally.
Second is to have three of these on the pole. In the unlikely event that H Man ever tells us how he made the thing, I'll have three and just use the handiest one. I'm getting bored of asking him so I'm looking online at clips and brackets that would slip onto the pole quite easily.

Hacksaw two lines, heat it, bend the tab over cut off the surplus and sand the tab into shape with a handy grinding wheel. Might need to do it on spare a tube to try and keep the shape whilst it cools. Plastic tube needs to be the right diameter to fit the pole. Maybe rubber lined for grip , you could split it and zip tie it on I suppose but the ties might catch your hands.
Have a look at a windsurfing boom - that fits to a mast using a nifty clamp that works like a cam tensioner and is adjusted with varying the length of chord that passes through a cleat.
-
I've also considered that just a very thick tape wrapped around the pole would do the job, as it would drastically increase the friction of the pole. I did use a cricket bat grip on an old pole, which helped.
We do already use heatshrink our poles, so they are less slippery than normal. Unfortunately, grip heatshrink is hideously expensive.
Vin

Could probably stick some of that rubber matting stuff on the pole - you know the stuff old people use to open their marmalade jars. I bet you've got some in the kitchen drawer ;)

WILL be making a video showing how we made these.
Also tried cutting the attachment long way as some body on here suggested.
Now you are able to move it in any position on your pole.
Holds on like a clip.
Busy this week though see if we can do it before the weekend. :)
