Title: A-plan insurance
Post by: Dave Willis on February 06, 2015, 05:41:06 pm
Just set my public liability insurance up with them - very competitive, even insured for any tax investigation - very handy.  :)

A plan were close but they went to aviva for the insurance. So they were never gonna beat my renewal with aviva.

Roy that is amazing price , mines about £475 .

650 litre tank , T300 Transit van , 57 plate ,

I try them all , A plan , commercial vehicle direct and others .

Never get it under £475 really , I didnt when I didn't declare tank in the early days before I knew you had to ..

But I'm fully comp and insured , and if that's the price I have to pay then hey-ho

Do Aviva provide a replacement van with wfp system?

No they don't. A plan charge extra but you can add on it.

Luckily we have a spare wfp van. So not needed.

Aplan charge the same for a wfp system  fitted van as any other insurer does for a van without wfp system fitted

If it's a non-fault accident A-plan supply a wfp fitted van which will be charged to the "at fault drivers" insurance company.
However they also provide an additional insurance policy that provides the policy holder with a wfp fitted van if they have an accident that is their fault. I think it cost me an additional £85 on top of the normal policy fee.
This suits me as im a sole trader with only one van to rely on and I know if poop happens I will be able to continue working with minmal fuss.

However I understand that Number 23 doesn't have to rely on that type of cover as he has another van to use which allows him to be more flexible when shopping round for insurance quotes.

That was never sold to me like that :( I would have been tempted. Renewal is August and a customers son runs the Window cleaning van part ( i know i know) Just couldn't get more discount :(

I am currently designing a box style swap out WFP system. The idea is. Its a tank, reel, battery, pump etc etc etc all in one cube. So if i hired a van, i could literally just strap it in.

The cube/tank will also have plastic eye hooks to secure the cube (will be safe, sounds dodgy lol)

The only bits that wont be installed are the pump or pumps and battery...... I have grippa tank down the road or most places would be next day.

How much extra was it for the tax investigation cover Dave? If memory serves me correctly, I'm sure my accountant wanted £250

It won't be safe.

There is no way to do that safely. The load securing hooks in the backs of vans are not designed to take anything like the force they'd be subject to in an accident. It's about 50 tonnes or something.

My renewal isn't until November, I will then prob change over to A-plan as it's a good deal with the tax investigation cover.

What's the excess for glass being worked on?

Well that sounds incredibly good value!! Think I might have to give them a go when mine's due early April. My accountants wanted £180 just for the tax enquiry insurance!

Just tried the brokers, they cant compete with going direct to the insurance companies. Over 100 more than i pay now. Dont think i will bother with that rubbish again. #notimpressed.

All checks out - it's the Commercial Legal Expenses you need for the tax investigation bit (£26)
Might not suit everyone but for my needs and £5mil. cover I thought it was pretty reasonable.

Pretty reasonable is an understatement Dave, especially when you consider what accountants want to fleece you for it. I am gonna phone my current liability ins provider Polished Insurance to ask if they offer this cover, if not I will look into cancelling and going with A-plan. Thanks for sharing ;)
