Hi Guys. I hope all aren't suffering to much outside with the current weather. I'm in need of a litle advise please.
I have a 650litre hot water concept 2o system. I have had my RO for about 2 1/2 years now. Lately though I seem to be going through resin like the clappers (every 4-6-weeks - 11litre di vessel) My tds from tap comes in at around 250. Today I flushed and back flushed the system for around 30 mins each. My tds now comes in at around 70 through the RO before Di.
Am I assuming my RO membrane is buggered and needs changing? Embarrassed I know I'm probably going over old ground but, it's driving me mad!
Many thanks in advance for anyone that replies.
Cheers guys!

what ro is it, good going 2/half years with no membrane change.
-
You think Johnny? My last one lasted 5. I suppose its knackered then mate?
-
I have tap tds 270 ,van mounted system with 4040 ro,I get around 18 months, never anymore, but other guys get longer with similar tds,so I'm possibly doing something wrong.
But with that tds of 70 after ro,you deff need a new membrane

Sounds like a new membrane matey.
The durability of a membrane is dependant on volume not time, if I was using 200 ltrs a day so making a 1000 ltrs per week would last longer than if I was making 1000 ltrs a day 5000 per week. This applies to prefilters, I used to change them every six months, until alex g pointed out that they were only good for 20,000 ltrs of water passing through them this meant they needed changing every 4 weeks :o
Little wonder my membrane only lasted 14 months.
Changing the pre filters has kept my TDS at 008 (from 335 ish) for the last 4 months

Your membrane should deliver +- 25 tds on 120 from the tap or its facked.

Hi Craig,
Just some thoughts for you:
1/. How often do you flush your RO filters?
2/. When did you last change your pre-filters?
3/. Have you kept the system protected from the frost over the last few weeks?
4/. What is your mains pressure?
-
Is it still producing the same amount of water in speed.. Check make sure it's not the pressure before binning it off.. Also the prefilter as the cold weather can do funny things to filters.
I plugged mine straight into the membrane bypassing the prefilters then checked the tds output, it came straight back down from 60 to 16. It's a process of elimination Worth checking.
-
So you put tap water straight through your membrane, am I reading that right ??

Yes if your about to bin the memebrane anyways 5 mins without prefilter wont damage it in order to run a membrane test.. I wouldn't advise doing it any longer this is purely to test the membrane and your last resort. Mine works amazing now thanks to June at gaps water I've learnt loads about 4040 and getting the best from them.

If it's caught a heavy frost in the van without a heater this can and will damage the membrain
It does sound like it's in need of replacing,
Mine last about 12-15 months but we're putting about 15-20 thousand litres a week through it, I do hammer the rejection rate

MANY THANKS for all your replies guys. Very much appreciated!!! A new membrane it is then. Can anyone recommend a good one please? And a good price of course ;)
