Hi guys just wondering weather to do this or not .
I do get tired of lifting the reel in and out of the van all the time .
I have a two man system , a helper helps me once a week , so was thinking of mounting just one reel .
I suppose I need
1- brackets
2- 2x guilder square hole devices to feed the hose through .
Probably through the van floor and another at the rear bumper .
Or just one through the rear door ????
-
How does the wife feel about this? Have you not tried Relate?
-
I was going to say back door , but I knew that would of got a response .
Lol
-
Hey kempy, this was talked about on the other forum a while back. Just use some pipe clips to mount your reel, still easily removable.
Also you don't need to make holes for roller guides, just place it near the door.
Personally I'd rather not be chopping holes in my van, though if I did I'd probably have a fuel filler cap fitted to hide the hole and to stop cold getting in.
Think someone here posted pics, susan I think, looked quality.

I've considered mounting our reels, but I do like the flexibility of being able to lift them out of the van and point them in the direction we're working in.
Often, especially since we're a two 'man' team, one works in one direction and the other works in completely the other direction.
What I do find useful is having two hose reels; one with 100 meters of hose, the other with only 60 meters. If I'm working by myself, I'll just use the reel with 60 meters on it because it's a lot lighter to lift in-and-out.
-
Would NEVER go back to a unfixed reel.
-
have the best of both , get some ply and put 4 23m pipe clips on to it, unclip if you wanna come out
-
As no.23 lugging in out all day I'd have a hernia!
Tosh reels pointing the "right way" is overrated, you can pull off really easy unless doing 180 turn, fixed reels save time and energy
Mines not as swish but setup like this...

What reels are those?

Your setup is what made me do it Darran ;)

Quality yours Number 23 .
I do use my van for other things , leisure with kids footy team kits and equipment and kids bikes .
Think I might mount one , proper hole with the reel guide fitted .
Coming out of near side rear panel . The roller means you can walk in any direction .
-
Reel works - take 100 meters of microbore.
They work well, but the handles fail on occasion, now fitted with the latest pure freedom solid side reels - lovely !

This was mine when i went 2 man 1 van , both reels could go in either direction , the wheeled reel could also be lifted out , i miss that set up in a way .

I lift and point. Pain with 100mtr minibore. 50mtr of microbore on another reel sounds a good idea. I need to be able to empty my van. Even considered moving some gear for a charity. Cant do that with some of the setups shown

I used to think.the same Tosh but I would never go back to an unfixed reel now it makes the day soooo much easier :)

carabiners hung off the tail gate - change direction of the hose with them. Never take the reel out ever.

Any pics Dave?
I can't think how that works or how you hang the carabiners.
-
I like the mounted reel never had issue with what ever direction I want to go, i can still shut boot when working , slightly changed now as have another reel beside heater as my daughter uses that one and still fixed in
-
Hiace has a guard fitted as standard over the back window - row of bars. Just hang them off this. Could put one on a sling too I suppose and hang it elsewhere.
-
Is that the pro loc reel tony?
Quite fancied giving one of these a try, any good?

Dave - I'd imagine you use a bungee and a Katabiner .
Be a good idea that , I do need to mount a reel I believe .
But still want to work with the van doors locked , as persons will pinch all my Vision bottles . Lol

As I've gone by I have found various jumps that made the job easier. Moving to a 25 foot SLX from a CLX27, and using an SLX18 with an Extreme brush, but mounting the reels in the back made life so much better. Easily the biggest save on body wear. Lower back problems are greatly improved.
Very rarely is there an issue with getting hose out if the van is pointing exactly the right way. As above, I wouldn't go back. If for some reason I had a problem the meant I had to lift in and out, I'd take the day off. Mind you, I have 100m mini bore.

You can turn that through 270ish degrees. It's shoulder height.
-
Classic picture and vehicle that

I'm not so happy with that one.
I bought 2 of the defender 'pumas' which are defenders released since land rover was in Ford's ownership. In order to keep up with emissions regulations they needed a new engine, predictably they chucked a transit engine in there. Nothing wrong with the Ford duratorq engine. It's just not designed to be in a land rover. It's designed to be cruising at 70mph on the motorway.
Now, sadly, Jaguar land rover have decided they can't bring the defender up to current safety standards without altering the design so far that it's no longer a defender. Production stops this year.

Soupy fair play that's a cool setup, why do you use land rovers out of interest?
-
The idea is to have a frame made over the top of the tank and then have the electric reels mounted over than tank. But towards the back end. With the roller system in floor it would easily work. I may not even have to add another a roller.
With that it would give the whole rear end as space then. However this van is just for window cleaning. I am planning another van to now replace my dads van instead. A come up with new business.

I just always wanted one, simple as that really.
I started with a series 3, which is so easy to fix. I still have the first one I bought, it's worth 3x (at least) what I paid for it a decade ago.
-
Hey Damo, do the hoses go out through the floor?

Fair enough, my old mans got a series 2, with the benches in the back, great motors, learnt to drive in it many years ago, loved it.
No way I could have one round here though, Way to urban, so a van it is!

That's so sad

Originally reels were on the deck. Bending over to wind in and spooling hose was hard. Had the frame made to combat that.

That's decent mate, do you have a way of covering the hose port though? Do you have issues with it freezing in winter? Or can you pull the hose right up into the van?
-
All you guys have these fantastic setups, but not electric. WHY?

A controller has been made for my electric reels. It's going to be an intelligent controller made by spring. Will be on general sale i would imagine as well. My first electric reel "should" be here next week. Cannot bloody well wait!

I did have jumbo ball protectors on the reel hose so the fittings stopped outside. Had no issues with freezing as drained the system (reels and pumps)
Main issue was not being able to put the brake on the reels without putting the reel under tension. So once i let the fitting dangle, after a 3 minute drive it was wrecked! Forgot about speed bumps! So i have now swapped over to smaller protector balls. These then go into the van and the pole hose is wound onto the reel. After two days i love it. Its not perfect but i love it! All i need todo is use a better cable tie to stop balls from moving. But they really do slide through rollers with ease.
My next mission is making a new type of hose. TBH i am fed up with micro bore and pole hose. So there must be a compromise.

You're so lazy I bet you adopted your kids. ;D

Nice one , hardest thing is getting a bracket fitted underneath the van I bet .
How did you create the hole in the floor , did you just use a drill and loads of holes

Handed over a sack full of cash to grippatank.co.uk lol
They did it all. I am more than capable of doing it. But I value my time off more now.
-
Who supplies the hose roller guides?
-
Apart from Grippa that is. I'm thinking of self fitting.
-
Redashe.co.uk

Hi smudger yes it is.
Purchased from window cleaning warehouse no issues with it must be 4-5 years old now never leaks I use a 1/4 to 12 ml john guest for water in so really water tight unless I forget to turn hot water of in the hight summer
Suits my needs as it's simple set up all removable apart from heater which can be used as a hot water shower when we camp
Really nice set up guys love those Grippa systems if I ever was ever more inclined to employ or take someone with me full time would defiantly go for those set ups, I'm just too lazy must be age creaping up
-
Redashe , looks like quality products
Be £26 and £31 for the two rollers
And £20 for reel mounts from cleaning spot I think
Total £ 77
-
Can get em cheaper as I think that's RRP
I know my reel they wanted close to £800 plus VAT!
-
Think Gardiners are £25 , don't think Gardiners sell the under floor one
