Hi,anyone offer carpet dyeing for stains etc?
-
Yes all the time......probably do this half a dozen times a month @ £120 per stain
-
Hi Mike,do you need training ,where did you buy the dye kit?
-
Chemspec do the colour repair courses and sell the products
-
Really Stuart, brilliant, thanks for that.Do you offer this service?
-
I used to, but matching colours is quite dificult, thats why I dont do leather repair, ive had the training with Chemspec about eight years ago , but sold the colour repair kit as I am a but colour blind and found it dificult to colour match

America :) search any of the sites Cobb , Donjon , Steembrite for ' Dye ' and you will see heaps to choose from , as they do whole room dying also they have large tubs of dye . I got some 1LB pots .
If you just want to do the odd spot then perhaps best to buy the kit mentioned in posts above , its shown in the Tacca video , posted recently also . A small amount of dye goes a long way so you dont need a lot really . But the big jars a re good value .
I have this large modern hotel with this brown carpet on all the bedrooms and bedroom corridors . During the bust when hotels changed hands for a euro ,it was staffed by cheap inexperienced workers who spilled bleach , kettle descaller everywhere , there are hundreds of spots .
I was just testing today , firstly i tried adding the three primary colors to make the desired shade of brown , that worked but if found just using Brown and giving it a rub with a towel after to blend it worked OK .
Im kinda doing a diy version in my prep so firstly i used Haitian cotton cleaner ( cause it had it handy ) to neutralize and ' clean' the bleach spot , then i mixed a bit of citric acid with the dye and hot water .
Price , i will probably give an hourly rate , i would be there for days :v
Domestic , i wouldn't know what to charge , don't think id get the 120 per stain mentioned above in these parts !

Looks good John, how many colours you buy and how much.
One pound jars are about 20usd , i just got yellow , blue , red ( primary ) colours as u should be able to mix to obtain other colors . i got some brown also .
But if getting from America get a good few to make it worth your while with shipping etc , i have a few other bits in my order .
Also there is product called ' one step dye prep ' would be good to get that also or a similar prep product .
these are mostly wool/nylon dyes btw , there might be other better options for other synthetics

A packet of heat set fabric pens normally does the job for me !
Loads cheaper & easier to do !
-
Steve where do you get the pens from
-
Just search ebay -- heat set fabric pens, easy to use, you can experiment with colour match and wipe out and start again if not right then just heat set with an iron.
Been using them for about ten years, we do a fair bit in care homes where the carers spill bleach a lot, ::)roll so is a quick, easy and cost effective solution.

hey Steve, how do you mix to get desired colours?
-
If you understand about basic colour mixing, i.e. blue & yellow make green then, I normally put an equal amount of dots of each colour on the stain and basically smudge it together with a lightly damp cloth, if not right then just add another colour to tint it, or wipe out with a wet cloth and start again !
Obviously its easier with a bit of practice, Always worked for me and doesnt cost the earth, just a packet of pens. Its not permanent until you heat set it, so you can experiment as much as you like until you get the right shade.
